bring the tissues

I’m writing this right after finishing the epilogue and I can barely see because I’m still crying. I’m crying so hard. I can’t go into details because anything will give up the plot but make sure you have tissues ready to go. All the tissues.
I haven’t cried this hard over a book ever.

Spice:

A story of legends past and those in the making.

How do I even put into words how this story made me feel?

Alexandra has a way of writing that makes you feel so deeply for the characters, they become ingrained in you. Finn and Riddick are absolutely different sides of the same coin which made them perfect for each other. I loved their grumpy/sunshine dynamic but more than anything, I loved their story. Reading Finn’s inner monologue as he was attempting to figure out his feelings had me laughing out loud more than once and Riddick’s gump was so endearing.
I don’t know what I thought was going to happen but it was definitely not this!
I am not usually a more contemporary reader but this was the perfect story of love, loss, and dreams combined. I will forever be reading everything Alexandra writes.

I really liked this book until the end. I can’t decided if I feel this love story had a HEA.

What the hell was this?

Chasing Riddick is an emotional roller coaster in the best way. One moment everything feels light and full of promise, and the next you’re hit with a twist that leaves you heartbroken—and I loved every second of it.
From the start, I got strong golden retriever/black cat vibes between Finn and Riddick. Finn is eager, determined, and full of energy, while Riddick is broody, reluctant, and needs a little convincing. But once he agrees to coach Finn through some of the world’s most dangerous waves, their dynamic really comes alive. Finn takes everything Riddick throws at him—and then some—and their push-and-pull chemistry makes the story impossible to put down.

So good but so sad! There is fantastic banter, very lovable characters and a uniquely cool story….just be prepared for consensual emotional devastation with the perfect unconventional HEA (and bring tissues) 🥹😅❤️‍🩹

Welp, I was well and truly forewarned by author Alexandra St. Pierre and fellow readers, but I was still not ready to how I sobbed my way through the end of Chasing Riddick. Exploring themes of grief, loss, healing, and redemption, Finn and Riddick’s story was raw and beautiful. I love them both so much, and every moment of heartache was worth suffering through for them. Whilst their unconventional HEA is not something I would expect everyone to be satisfied with, I felt it was the right fit in the context of the story and I appreciate the bittersweet edge to it.

It’s hard to put into words how much I especially appreciated MMC Finn. Whilst I’ve certainly encountered characters that seem ADHD coded through my reading journey, there’s only one, maybe two books I can think of off the top of my head that have had such strong, well-written ADHD rep. Although Finn is a high-energy golden retriever and my nature leans more to black cat, his experiences and inner voice highlighted the challenges I face in my everyday life; he’ll forever have a special little place in my heart.

Omg this book 😭😭😭😭 I didn’t realize this was going to have me so emotional. I love and hate the ending. I need a novella check in on F&R during that “5 years later” and while I’ve heard nothing about that happening, I’m crossing my fingers that it does 🤞🤞🤞🤞
