Honestly, reading this is a relief. It’s less caught up in cycles of pseudo-philosophy and more concerned with what the characters are doing and how they’re feeling. Unlike Paul of Dune and Sands of Dune, the characters from Heretics and Chapterhouse have been so ill-defined, or rather defined by the plot, that Herbert the younger and Anderson can really go wherever with them, and it’s fine. The story remains dumb, and the Honored Matres being based on bureaucracy makes their power and control very nonsensical. For example, they refuse to do anything and rely entirely on their servants, but they also micromanage? They have to do something… I dunno, it’s still not good at all, but I’ll take it over the repetition and ignorance of the previous two books. Let’s just close this story out.

I like the style of writing better on this book compared to the previous six - kudos to the new writers. I also liked how this is more about tying everything together and explaining things that have been left too long without an explanation. But it’s still a very long and slow book.

"Hunters of Dune" attempts to continue the saga but falls short of capturing the essence and depth of the original series. While providing some semblance of resolution, the excessive use of resurrected characters and departure from Frank Herbert's style result in a mediocre reading experience, warranting a 3/5 rating.
