I understand the mixed reactions to Children of Anguish and Anarchy. It’s similar to Mockingjay in being a very different third book compared to the rest of the series. And the ending is very quick for all that happens plot-wise.

That being said, this does feel like a fitting conclusion to Zelie’s story. I also enjoyed getting Tzain’s POV in this one - it feels like we know his voice by now and getting his perspective enriched him as a character.

The new Norse and Ancient Mexican inspired cultures are also well developed (if occasionally in the first instance mildly terrifying).

I’m curious if we’ll see more in this universe someday, which would be a welcome expansion!

This may end up being an unpopular opinion, but I liked this much installment much better than the second one. My main complaint is that we only got a surface view of the world, people, and magic outside of Orisha.

Throwing in a random third party in order to unite the nation felt lazy to me. Unless there’s going to be another book, why incorporate two new civilizations?
idk who was responsible for this, but replacing Bahni Turpin with Cynthia Erivo as the narrator felt weird as well. So many weird plot holes and missing characters. Just a mess of a third book.
