It was a long wait to finally get to this end of the trilogy. It starts off strong but the ending leaves a lot to be desired. Overall great characters, great story. I would recommend the series to others although this entry in particular might be the weakest when looking at the three.

I absolutely DEVOURED this series. after I got like 25% through book 1 I was hooked. I was sad that book 3 changed narrators and that did take me out of the story a little (it’s wild going from a true west african accent to a british person faking one) but the actual story still deserved 5⭐️.

I STILL don’t buy the love story between Zelie and Inan. I actually don’t care how hot you are, if your family has been hunting my people since before I was born you can fully choke. With that being said 🤭🤭 I did miss Roën in this book and was sad that he never made a reappearance. Would have liked to see the relationship between Amari and Mai’e (I listens to the audiobook okay idk how these names are spelled) rather than just having it hinted at.

I think the book wrapped up nicely BUT I wouldn’t mind a 4th book if the author were ever to write one. I feel like she created such a rich world and magic system I just want to see how magis navigate it.

I really don’t know how to feel about this book lol first off, no wonder I couldn’t remember anything from book 2…I had to read a summary online and realized that book dropped in 2019. Such a long stretch between books.

I know everyone is saying it felt like you’re reading an entirely new book. However, I do sort of understand why she decided to incorporate the story of the Skulls. The monarchy and the Maji needed a force to push them to work together. I don’t see how that would have occurred if the Maji just overtook them after book 2. The monarchy would have still had plenty of resentment against them.

Now, with that being said, the details behind the Skulls was lacking. They never truly explain or help us understand the bloodmetal or where it even came from. Baldyr’s back story was flat! It felt like no one ever had a true plan. They just kept listening to Inan or not using their heads. Then, what’s up with the random queer arch? It just came out of nowhere and then fell flat on its face. Also, Zelie acting like she didn’t know what he was capable of. You literally knew what his end goal was, so after it was implanted, why didn’t you consider what could happen?! Lastly, wtf happened to Roen?! Okay, I’m ranting now. But this is how I like to write my reviews, just expression of thoughts. I got through it and probably wouldn’t recommend it. Y’all have fun with all this.

I’ve got nothing but respect for what Tomi Adeyemi built with the Legacy of Orïsha series. This world? This magic? These characters? They’ve meant a lot, and I’ve truly enjoyed the full journey. That said, Children of Anguish & Anarchy was a bit of a mixed bag for me.

From the very first page, the story comes in swinging. No warm-up, no deep breath—we’re thrown straight into the action. I get it—it picks up right after the second book, so the intensity makes sense. But personally, I could’ve used a little more time to settle back into the world and reconnect with the characters before everything started moving at full speed.

What I did love? Seeing Orïsha expand. We’re finally introduced to new lands like New Gaīan—a stunning, plant-based society—and Baldeírik, a war-heavy region with deep tribal roots. The imagery was dope, and the cultural depth had so much potential. But with the story moving so fast, I found myself wishing we could slow down and really build with those places and the new folks we meet. Especially since this is the final book—I wanted those moments to breathe and land harder.

Still, the series as a whole? Iconic. Revolutionary. It gave us something powerful to hold onto. Even when the pacing felt a little rushed or the transitions too sharp, the heart behind the story never wavered. This finale might not have been perfect, but the series left a legacy—and that matters.
