This memoir is engaging and raw--real stories of real people. I think the biggest takeaway for me is the reality that we can't compare pain; there is no hierarchy. The stories woven throughout the book were varied and challenging. Really, I think this book challenged me not to judge the author and her story, or those of the patients she followed throughout the memoir. I found myself truly hoping this season of each of their lives, which of course is just a snapshot, found some kind of peace and closure.

I wish I had written down more quotes as I went through it, but these two in particular stuck out to me:

"I wouldn't want it back, but I'm glad I remember it."

"Every laugh and good times that comes my way feels ten times better than before I knew such sadness."

I laughed and cried and will recommend this book to friends.

got a little repetitive near the end but i like how it focuses on patients in therapy rather than “therapy theories” itself, thus humanising the process of therapy more. i was really invested in some of the patient’s stories - and i like how some characters are constants throughout the book and others are brought in when relevant. took me a while to read tho
