3.9 AVERAGE

I really enjoyed this book. I think the male POV really works for me and I thought Brent was sweet and mostly thoughtful. I wasn’t the biggest fan of the ugly duckling trope, but it did provide some initial amusement.

Full review to come, but I really loved this second chance romance! It had everything you love from Emma Chase mixed with some action and BAM, this book baby was born!!
funny lighthearted tense fast-paced
Plot or Character Driven: Character
Strong character development: No
Loveable characters: Yes
Diverse cast of characters: No

I'm just gonna go ahead and get this out in the open right away, this book was my least favorite in this series. That being said, its still a really great book. Emma Chase will forever be the queen of the male POV. I still can't figure out how she writes these cocky, crude, brilliant, sexy men who, in real life would disgust me, in a way that makes me desperately fall in love with every one of them.
This time it's a fast-paced, sweet & sexy second chance romance between Brent Mason his childhood neighbor, best friend and first love Kennedy Randolph that will suck you and have you laughing until your cheeks hurt.
This story was pretty simple and sweet and I loved getting to see the whole gang together. Is this not a group of friends/family that you wouldn't love to spend your weekends hanging out with? PS. Dena, you can have Brent but Jake is mine forever!!
This book was a really light-hearted read until the last 15% when the feels really started to hit me and that's when I really fell in love with Brent and Kennedy. The extended epilogue was the perfect way to end this series and remind me why I loved it so much.

3.5 stars.

It took a little bit to get into this but once I did get into it I read it quickly and it was enjoyable.

Hello pop culture references. They were everywhere. Everywhere!

Twilight, Leo Dicaprio in Titanic, Escape from New York, Ed Sheeran, Where's Waldo, Disney, The Fault in Our Stars, Star Wars...etc, etc, etc. The list literally will go on for a while these are just the ones that sprung to mind immediately. Plus all the product placement, Youtube, BMW's, blah, blah blah, a little less than the pop culture smorgasbord but still the list would go on for a bit. Honestly those annoyed me the most in this book. Every time a pop culture reference would be made I wanted to roll my eyes, some would have been fine but it was excessive.

Onto the actual story.

I like second chance reunion romances and I like where 1 person got kind of shafted in high school (for whatever reasons) and come back kickin' ass and takin' names. I understood Kennedy's wariness to trust Brent again but she did kind of annoy me when she left after an evening of hot and heavy making out, and was just cold to him, and snapped at him. However I enjoyed seeing Brent fight for Kennedy and try to "win" her back and apologize for his part in everything.

The dialogue between Brent and Kennedy was funny. There was a court room scene where they got in each other face and made it clear to the judge and jury that there was some...history between them.

Didn't like Kennedy's mother and I hated that Kennedy kind of excused her needling of her constantly, saying that if her mother didn't love her she would be ignoring her. In some respects yes that's true but that doesn't excuse her mother putting her down and giving her backhanded comments/compliments.

Over all this was a fun quick read.

Sustained used to be my favourite Legal Briefs book, but I think that title has been usurped by Appealed. At times, it wasn’t as enjoyable as I would like, but the more I think about it, the more I realize that there’s just a bit more substance in this story. It’s those moments when I want to kill high school Brent and his posse that made it all the more remarkable. And that time when his douchebaggery was magnified when he flat out gave Kennedy an ultimatum. Like, dude. What the hell were you thinking? As if ultimatums ever work in the history of relationships. Above all, I like seeing glimpses of the group as they live their lives. But what I would like even more is to see how they are living now with kiddies in tow.

As usual, Emma Chase delivered a hilarious romance between two characters oozing with out of this world attractiveness and wit to back it up. The instant attraction wasn’t a surprise because they had a history together. And it was tender, but more often tumultuous. Your heart will go out for the young Kennedy who have loved Brent and whose heart was broken many times over by the pettiness and actions of others. Brent was – for the most part – a less than innocent bystander through it all, though. He failed to protect Kennedy then, which led to her hatred. Sadly, the comeuppance wasn’t as enjoyable because it was very brief. Sort of a delayed gratification, too. But, oh, was it fun to watch them spar in and out of the courtroom!

I recently found out that this is the last book in the series. I’m sad. It seems like I just found this series so I’m not willing to let go of the books just yet. Emma Chase gave us a series that is wholly addictive and fun. Her characters are witty and hilarious. Navigating through all the idiosyncrasies of each characters’ relationships had been a hoot. Moreover, I enjoyed that the books were told mostly from the guys’ points of view. I like seeing them live through their self-inflicted heart injuries. Idiots.

4% DNF. The fact that he drags her back to bed. Not hot, terrifying.

had the best trope of all: therapy and communication

Emma never fails, I swear.
