L'épilogue est trop mignon...

I love all books by Emma Chase, but in this case I think Brent and Kennedy surpassed my expectations. This book is amazing, I got all emotions possible while reading it. It took me on sit to get through it all and I still wanted more. I totally recommend this book to anyone, even though if you haven't read the previous ones so you can jump on the train to read anything by Emma Chase in the future, I just one-click to preorder whenever I get the notifications, no need to even read the summary I know I will love it. And Brent and Kennedy are my new favorite book couple.

Brent Mason is the final member of the Legal Briefs quartet. We have been introduced to him in the previous two books as a fun-loving, womanizing criminal defense lawyer. Here we delve deeper into Brent’s mind; how he copes with a trans-tibial amputation following a terrible accident in childhood, his relationship with his parents, his dependence on a therapist and his outlook towards love and commitment. Initially, this was my opinion of him:

‘I don’t know how women do it. I don’t know how they even like any of us- a significant portion of the male population deserves to have their dicks cut off. And I don’t think I say that lightly.’

I’m sorry, Brent, but you might belong in that significant population too.

He might be a major asshole, but he’s also downright hilarious.

“I’m in labor, Brent, not an invalid. I can walk.”
“Of course you can-but why should you have to when you have a manly man like me around?”
As I head down the stairs, I adjust Sofia’s considerable mass in my arms. And of course, she notices.
“If you tease me about how heavy I am, I’ll rip your beard hairs out.”
“Tease? Me?” I grin. “I would never tease a woman about her weight- especially a pregnant woman.” I make it down the last step, then add, “Although… I think my titanium prosthetic just bent under the strain.”

When Kennedy Randolph, Brent’s childhood friend and sweetheart, is assigned as the prosecuting lawyer in a cyber-terrorism case, Brent is determined to patch up their relationship which fell apart fourteen years ago and woo Kennedy once again. But Kennedy has grown up to be smart, spunky and confident. Nothing like the quiet, nerdy girl she was at seventeen.

The first part of the book focused on their lust-hate banter, which entertained me to no end.

“I could never be with someone like you- you have the maturity of a twelve-year-old boy.”
I raise my glass. “And you have the chest of one.”
I expect her to come back with a clever, biting retort, but she just gestures to me with an open palm. “I rest my case.”
Ironically, my first instinct is to stick my tongue out at her. But I won’t give her the satisfaction.’

In the midst of this light-heartedness, Brent is sometimes surprisingly insightful.

‘The truth is a relentless, ugly little beast. It scratches and gnaws, driving you crazy- until you let it out.’

‘That’s what scars are for. They protect the wounds. Cover them with thick, numb tissue so we’ll never have to feel the same pain again.’

I also LOVED getting a glimpse of the McQuaid brood again. Love, Love, LOVE them so much.

My problem was largely with the second half of the book. Once Brent and Kennedy realized their feelings for each other, the story became a little monotonous and there was almost nothing else… only sex. I have come to expect something more than just a plain ol' love story from [a:Emma Chase|6551005|Emma Chase|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1349731311p2/6551005.jpg]’s books- an interesting sub-plot, family/friend dynamics or something, but here, the cyber-terrorism and Mafia cases too were glossed over quickly, giving the love story more page space. However, I don’t suppose this would be a major problem with most readers.

Also, Brent and Kennedy suddenly had drastic, unrealistic personality makeovers. What became of the playboy Brent? Where did the sassy Kennedy disappear to? Some convenient place so that the story would continue without hassle.

ACTUAL RATING: 3.5 rounded off to 4 coz of the adorable extended epilogue. Things can’t get any cuter!!!

UPDATE:
My review of Overruled (BOOK 1)

My review of Sustained (BOOK 2)

What an enjoyable read this was!

Cute.

4.5 stars! I enjoy being inside Brent's head. He's my favorite out of the three dudes in the Legal Briefs series.

ARC received for an honest review

Book three in the Legal Briefs series - woohoo! Last book in the Legal Briefs series - boooooo!!

I had other books waiting for me that needed to be read prior to Appealed - but the second it turned up on my Kindle, it took precedence.

Brent Mason and Kennedy Randolph's story goes waaay back, and I loved how we got their present and past stories. My heart hurt for both of them as we learn more about their pasts, but when they are reunited, my heart soared. I just knew that good things had to happen for them... right?

I loved how through it all, Kennedy is this strong, take no crap woman. As we learn more, she could have been the complete opposite, but she pulled up her big girl knickers and got on with life (no matter how hard it was for her).

And the fact that we got more of the characters from the first 2 books and a glimpse into their lives was wonderful.

There was nothing I didn't love about Brent. Sexy and successful, but at times he is still a 12 year old boy, or the high school guy Kennedy last knew. I laughed so many times, but there were times when he just made me want to cry. And I adore that we get these stories from the male POV, and see beyond their cocky lawyer exteriors.

There was plenty of hot sexy time, with a dash of suspense thrown in for good measure.

Now the only thing wrong with this book and series is that

to is really being over :(

I have thorough loved the trials (pun intended) and tribulations of these legal eagles, and can't wait to see what Ms Chase brings us next.
