A lot of plot holes at the end and a lot of questions left unanswered. I found it difficult to form an attachment to the characters and found the story hard to read. I loved the details and the story of wendy at st. bernadette’s but too many aspects of neverland were left unanswered. The story should have shifted its focus more to fill those gaps and answer the questions it posed.

I think I liked the idea of this book a lot more than the book itself 🫤
I don’t have anything particularly negative to say about it other than it just kind of fell flat? I enjoyed the dark take on this classic story but just never felt myself get truly hooked (no pun intended). The bones of this story were great, but the end product just left a lot to be desired. Still undecided on whether or not to give the sequel a try.

SO! GOOD! Dark, feminist retelling that surprised me with some queer representation as well! Definitely a 10/10 book, one of the most enjoyable ones I've read recently for sure. Looking forward to reading more from A. C. Wise!

Ich hatte so große Erwartungen (und Hoffnungen) für diese Neuerzählung, doch wurde ich letztendlich sehr enttäuschend von dem Buch zurückgelassen.
Für mich erklärt das Nachwort einiges: dieser Roman war ursprünglich eine Kurzgeschichte. Meiner Meinung nach reicht das Format einer Kurzgeschichte oder Novelle bei Weitem aus, diese Geschichte zu erzählen. Denn beim Lesen hatte ich zunehmend das Gefühl, dass die Autorin nur "um den heißen Brei herum redet" und nicht zum Punkt kommt. Es gibt so viele ausschweifende Beschreibungen, lange Kapitel, Flashbacks und Wiederholungen, dass man tatsächlich Seiten überspringen könnte und so gut wie nichts verpassen würde.
Dafür war mir das Ende und die "Auflösung" viel zu abrupt und unpassend im Gesamtbild.
Auch die Charaktere blieben mir zu fern. Sie waren nett aber viel zu passiv und unausgeprägt, außerdem haben mir für ein Retelling zu viele Infos gefehlt, dafür wurden wieder und wieder die selben Dinge aus "Peter Pan" wiederholt, von denen ich nun wirklich keine Auffrischung gebraucht hätte.
Der Schreibstil war gut zu lesen, manchmal wirkte alles wenig emotional und eher träge.
Insgesamt keine Empfehlung von mir.

Absolutely loved this book and the horror spin on a classic children's story.
The exploration of the long lasting effects on people who come back from Neverland, which was never the plan, and how that could directly disturb them was fascinating.
Wendy was a brilliant character who showed tenacity and strength, and the different timelines of her past and her present were excellently deployed to provide insight into her behaviour and responses, and the depth of her love for those around her.
