I thought this book was wonderfully adorable. This is exactly what the doctor called for when you’re looking for a light, uplifting book.

In the beginning, the set up was taking longer than I would have preferred, but by the end the author captivated me entirely.

With the recent push for movie love stories about more than just twenty-something’s, I could see this being a TV movie with incredible success. Even as someone who has never gone through a divorce or lost a parent, I felt for her so deeply. By the end her happiness was what I rooted for the most.

I think the ending was splendid (and left room for a sequel to the original), but mostly it showed the growth Rae had throughout the book.

I love this and I hope one day I get to watch this as a Hallmark movie.

I stumbled across this book on NetGalley and thought it looked interesting and figured I'd give it a try. I was pleasantly surprised at how much I loved this story. It is full of heart and humor and was a fantastic read/listen. I loved pretty much everything about this story and will be looking to purchase a hard copy for my keeper shelf so I can enjoy it again and again.

I received this book from NetGalley and was not required to post a positive review. All thoughts are my own.

It’s like The Golden Girls meets Steel Magnolias! I loved every minute of Rae Sutton. Such a good, good message. Let go and let God. Thank you Susannah for writing this, I sure did need it.

The Christian element of this book was too strong for me, especially since it isn’t promoted as a Christian book. The ongoing commentary about praying about one thing or another and quoting scripture became offputting. I was disappointed in the ending.

I usually dont review books but...I just wasnt expecting it to be christian fiction. When I read the synopsis for the first time nothing in it gave me the impression that this would have religion so ingrained on it. I thought I was getting into a cute contemporary where sorority helped the main character overcome the hardships that are going on in her life, and yes, I thought getting that sorority from her mom's friends was a little weird, but I didnt pay much attention to that because, why not? There's tons of media where a young mc gets help from an older mentor-like figure, and I figured this would be that. It was not.  Maybe in hindsight I can see how "leaps of faith" can mean "religious faith", but reading the synopsis in the bookstore I just thought it meant doing the thing that scares us hoping for the best. I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who thought it was overly preachy though.
The scene where Rae goes to church for the first time in years and ends up falling to her knees in front of the preacher and crying? I was in shock.
The worst part is not all the preaching tho, I was ready to ignore that right until the ending, which is the main reason why I gave this book 1 star.

Rae has been through a lot in a year: her (ex-)husband cheated on her and left her, her mom died, and she moved back to her hometown, and she feels helpless and alone and doesnt know how to keep going. When she confides in her SIL, she basically tells Rae that if she started to believe in god again, all her problems would be gone. Her aunt also tries to get her back into religion, and Rae finally accepts to go to church one sunday, where the scene I mentioned before happens, and then after that it's just "God is my anchor and if I feel like I cant go on I just have to let go and let him guide me" and "God will let me know which decision is the correct one" every time something happens. Also that first church visit is described in detail for like 6 pages.

But again, I might have been able to look over that and give this book 3 stars, except, remember the cheating ex-husband? Honest to god (no pun intended), the last words of the book are something like "I know if he shows enough remorse I know I will take him back", and I just-- ma'am this dude took his 10 years younger side piece to your mother's funeral. Just because you read a letter your mom left you where she tells you he went to visit her and told her he made the worst mistake of his life doenst erase the fact that this dude 1) cheated on you, 2) lied to you (because when he told her he wanted to get divorced she asked him if there was someone else and he said no, when in fact there was), and 3) lied to you even more (telling her a story about a couple that got divorced and then both of them got new parners and the four of them would get together for lunch all peaceful, and how he "wanted them to be like that for the sake of their daughter" then to reveal to her that it wasnt true, the ex-wife couldnt tolerate the new wife and it all went to shit, and in fact he wanted her back). That just sat with me wrong, I cant condone cheating, and once a cheater always a cheater, so, no, just no. And let's not even start with how the new love interest felt just like a plot device to get her back to her ex, because I've already been writing this review for like an hour.
