3.6 AVERAGE

3.5, novellas aren’t really my thing, so I rarely rate them super high. This was entertaining though for what it was.

Quick and oh so sweet

This book (novella?) was such a fun little read. I absolutely loved how much Mathior loved Halla and how unashamedly he expressed his desire for her.

Mathior and Halla are the cutest but the writing could have been so much better. So many phrases were inconsistent with the setting.
Still; I enjoyed it because the MCs were so easy to connect with. And it’s a nice introduction to the series.

- i did not expect to enjoy this one nearly as much as i did and i will absolutely be continuing on in the series
- i think there's something that i love so much about the dynamic of two characters bonding over something when they're young and holding onto that as adults and bonding over it all over again while creating new memories (if it's done well, of course, which it was in this novella)
- i'm not a huge novella person, but i felt like the pacing was perfect and ruby is very good at writing dialogue that this one just knit together in every possible way for me
- also it was sexy so i'm not complaining about that at all
- not even sure what the next books in this series are about but i'm here for it

Decided to give our girl Ruby another try with a book that isn’t dominated by big horny blue alien men. This one was actually pretty okay! Ruby can write, I can’t deny that!

She does participate in my most hated fantasy trope in this book (using tan characters with “foreign” or “barbaric” cultures as a replacement for people of color) so I can’t give her a glowing review.
