Short story. Pretty much the only plot is surrounding getting the two together. Not much there. But I do appreciate the huge consent theme and that the hero waited for her. So many romance novels glorify a guy who is super experienced. Tho this one seems to have been “trained” so he’s super confident. Hm.

This story brought a very warm feeling as I watched two people with such different backgrounds fall in love and join their people together.  Who doesn't love a warrier and a princess?

Minus one scene I really thought could've been done without, I really enjoyed this novella. Ruby Dixon is another one where she takes you on a journey you didn't know you wanted to go on.

It felt like The War Prize but with a bit of a smut and less plot to follow. I’ll see how the next one is !

A quick and satisfying read.

I don't think I've read a historical romance having the girl older than the boy (except Madness of Lord Ian Mackenzie, it was just 2-year gap though). It was very refreshing and satisfying. I really loved this one.

This was great!

I loved the historical/Viking vibes this novella gave. When you first hear about the marriage customs of the Hero’s culture they seem absolutely ludicrous. However, the world is well fleshed out by Dixon and therefore the ideas and customs felt like they made sense for the story’s setting.

I was pleasantly surprised that the heroine was actually older than the hero - this is the first story I’ve come across where this was the case.

The narrators did a fine job. I sometimes felt that they sounded a little stilted, which would take me out of the story, but quickly got past it each time.

Tropes:
👩🏼‍🦳older heroine
📜 marriage of convenience
🗡 barbarian romance
