Where We Belong is K.L. Grayson's first book and is also the first in her A Touch of Fate Series. I knew after reading the blurb for this book that I had to get my hands on this one. I really needed to know Harley's story and I am glad that I read this one. While there are a few things I had issues with, I absolutely couldn't put this one down and I stayed up extra late just to finish it. I am looking forward to getting more about the characters in this series and can't wait to see what the author has in store for them.

Harley Thompson has been in love with her best friend Tyson Grawe for years, but has never told him how she feels. When Ty informs her that he is moving away after the graduate from college, she finally tells him how she feels but he walks away from her. To make matters worse, she also went through something horrible right after Ty left her. Now five years later, her life is completely different and although it has been tough she wouldn't change a thing. She leans on her friends and is finally to a good place again until Ty suddenly walks back into her life. Ty knows that he made a mistake years ago walking away from Harley and their friendship, but he is back and is determined to have a second chance with her. But will Ty and Harley be able to leave the past behind them and move forward, or will there have been too much time and distance for them to overcome?

I was really frustrated with Ty for most of this book if i'm honest. He had some really wonderful moments and I would fall for him. He had missed so much of Harley's life and knew that he made a mistake, and yet his actions were still awful. He made assumptions and was extremely judgmental, and I just didn't understand why he wouldn't talk to her. I don't know how he expected to have everything figured out without having talked to her for five years, but at his age he should have been able to have an honest conversation with her regardless of how painful it might have been for him to hear certain things. Because of his actions, he hurt Harley more than once and it really pissed me off. Harley was strong. She had been through so much and had come out with such a great outlook on life. I am not sure that I would have been able to pull things together the way she did, but I admired her character so much for it. I loved her friendships with Quinn and Levi, and I thought that they were exactly the support system she needed. I will say that while I really wanted Ty to come groveling back to her, I also kind of hoped that Harley and Levi would take things beyond friendship. The worse Ty's actions got, the more I felt that way. I thought that they had a lot of history and I love a best friends to lovers story, but I just felt like Ty kept screwing things up and didn't really make up for it.

Because of everything that happened with Ty, I think I loved Levi that much more. Which is why I was extremely disappointed that he all but disappeared for most of the second half of this book. For the special relationship he had with Harley and Max, it felt really unbelievable that he would not be around much after Ty was in the picture. Especially considering that he wasn't an ex-boyfriend, but rather just a really great friend who had always been there for Harley. It just didn't work for me and felt unrealistic. I also felt like beyond just bringing in Levi to drop him, that the author did that with a few other things as well. Another being whatever was going on between Quinn and Mason. It was brought up and then never revisited. I am not sure if she was trying to lay groundwork for the next book(s) in this series, but I wondered why it was even brought up if it was just going to be left hanging. Another problem I had with the story was the ending and the resolution to the conflict/big secret. It felt like there was so much build up from the very beginning of this story, and the secret that was never revealed (though it was obvious to me and I had it figured out very early on) until the very end. Then once everything is out and things start to get interesting and resolved, it's over. I wanted more. It was rushed and abrupt, and it all felt very anticlimactic. All that being said, I honestly couldn't put this book down and I loved most of the characters. Max, Harley, and Levi were my absolute favorites, and I really liked Quinn as well. Ty did have his good moments though, and I was glad that he finally started to get his head on straight. While I am curious to know more of the situation with Quinn, I have to say I am dying to get my hands on Levi's story. He really stole the show for me with this book, and I desperately wanted more which is why I was so sad that he disappeared from this story. I really hope that K.L. Grayson gives us his story and soon, because he is fantastic. Even with all my criticisms, I would still recommend this book. It dealt with a lot of touchy subjects, and yet I thought that Grayson did a great job of giving us a beautiful story that did the characters and situation justice. I am looking forward to more from her in the future.

I've read this book a few times, and I have to say, there is a reason I keep rereading it. It is a sweet childhood to adult second chance romance that gets me every time. I feel the connection that Harley and Tyson have to each other, and their reunion was quite inevitable. I do wish that Harley hadn't given in quite so easily, but I understood why she did.

I've read all the books in this series, and this was a great start at introducing us to the characters in the rest of the series of standalones.

This is one of the better books that i have read in a long time. It was tragic and hopefull and beautiful all in one. the dual point of view was beautifully done and i am looking forward to reading more about this group of friends. Levi is especially interesting:)

Rating and Review

Rating: 3 Stars

A mix of good and bad, but nothing great. The MMC, Tyson, came second best to Levi, who I adored. This was a rare instance when I wanted the FMC to end up with the OM. I’m equally annoyed and frustrated that Levi was overlooked once Tyson returned, considering the major role he played in Harley and Max’s life for five years.

Tyson just didn’t work as the love interest for me, especially since it was a life-long-best-friends-to-lovers romance, yet he dropped Harley for an OW. It’s also never explained what happened between him and Brit that caused the breakup.

I wanted to deduct a full star for the drama at the end, where Harley was shamed for kicking Tyson to the curb, after the accusations he threw at her upon learning the identity of her rapist. Quinn was out of line in my opinion.

The writing and story structure felt a bit superficial, and I don’t feel like the plot was executed well. So what did I like? Max.

3.5 Second Chance Stars

Harley's life hit rock bottom the night she confessed to her best friend Tyson. After pinning after Ty for years she finally has the courage to confess, only to have her heart thrown back at her. Her life is changed that night when something unspeakable happens to her. Fast forward five years later, where Harley has finally pieced her heart back together and is content. The worst night of her life gave her the best gift and she's slowly but surely moving on.

Tyson's biggest regret happened five years ago. After flat out rejecting Harley he realizes he made a mistake. Now, he's moved back to their hometown and his goal is to win Harley back and have her forgive him. He soon realizes this is easier said than done, as Harley has secrets about what happened five years ago after he left her heartbroken. Together they can fall apart or fall back together to find where they belong.

This was a nice read for me and I enjoyed it, reading it completely in one day, Harley is a character you can't help but feel for. She's been through Hell and landed right back on her feet. After such a traumatic experience she begins to piece herself together and finds her silver lining. Tyson was an okay character for me. I just didn't care for him like I initially thought I would. However, he plays a big part in putting Harley's present life in place. As for the secondary characters, I loved Quinn, Levi, and Max. All these people helped Harley when she was in a dark place and were perfect to the story.

The only reason I didn't rate it higher was due to some of the drama I didn't find necessary. Such as the bar scene where Ty is completely oblivious that he's flirting with a girl when Harley was in the corner. However, the twist was interesting even though i did put it together before it was revealed. It was also refreshing to see characters who could have made a love triangle remain platonic and encourage Harley and Ty to become a couple which is why I gave this book 3.5 stars. Overall I enjoyed this book and recommend it for anyone who likes to read about childhood friends and second chances.

*PARTIAL SPOILER ALERT*

I was nearly sobbing by the end of the first chapter of this book. It gripped me and did not let go through the entire story. However, I was left wanting by the end of the story. We learned about what happened to Harley during the 5 years of separation and there was hints and promises that we would learn about what happened to Tyson.... but it never came!

Why did he really move to New York? What happened with Brit? Why did he decide to come home and when, how? Why did he finally acknowledge his feelings for Harley? Why had he come back that one time?

None. Of. These. Questions. Were. Answered. *screams in frustration*

So read the book, love the book, but be prepared to be left wanting at the end of the book.

I cannot believe this is KL's debut novel. It was absolutely amazing!!! I was hooked from the very beginning of the book and she kept my attention the entire way through to the end. I enjoyed having both POVs and she did not backtrack when it changed. So excited to see is next to come from KL.

This book is super awesome. I loved the story, the characters, and pretty much everything about it. The cover is absolutely beautiful and the story inside lived up to the beauty on the outside. This is a definite Must Read! Can't wait for the next book! <3
