I really enjoyed "The Secret Life of Bees". When I saw this film on the big screen I was curious how close the film was to the book. It's taken me more than a year, but I finally got around to reading this book. I really enjoyed this book. Sue Monk Kidd wrote a fantastic gem of a book when she penned "The Secrect Life of Bees".

This book addresses key issues that occured in the South during and directly after the civil rights bill was signed, however, it also keeps the reader firmly planted in the lives of the main characters, the Boatwright sisters (named for different months of the Spring and Summer months)and our heroine, Lily Owens. My only gripe with this book is that it is a bit overbearing at times in regards to religion, however, I did enjoy even this aspect.

The book was good. I loved the story line, but I wasn't crazy about the ending.

This book definitely would influence other people, but I did not enjoy it. It was cute, and I can see why people now adays would hold it close to their chest, but I did not love it.

Honest and beautiful, and I think a great YA novel for the theme of racial reconciliation

I’m still processing and ever since I’ve finished reading I can’t stop thinking about this book. I love how the subject of beekeeping was incorporated and source for numerous beautiful metaphors. The characters were astonishingly realistic and relatable. I was completely immersed in the story and couldn’t stop reading. What a dream it would be to live with the beekeeping sisters. I haven’t genuinely laughed while reading in a very long time but this book made me laugh out loud just as much as it made me cry. I have never read a book that made me as happy as this one does. So it’s easy to say that it’s my new favourite book!
