Just so well-written. I had no idea Daphe du Maurier could be so funny (not just dark). She certainly can paint a scene, depict a character type. I totally enjoyed this novel and it has inspired me to read more du Maurier.

No rating because I didn't like the characters or their stories BUT they are EXACTLY what the title says "Parasites" it's a well crafted book with well crafted and believable characters. I just didn't like reading about the lives of social parasites.
It's one of the rare occasions, where a book doesn’t deserve a bad rating since my lack of enjoyment wasn’t the authors fault.

Kind of in the vein of the Waves by Virginia Woolf, it is a feverish, stilted book, hurtling towards conclusions that if you blink, you will miss.

I enjoyed it as I really love DdM's writing however (1) there is basically no plot, it's just about this spoilt and unlikeable set of people and (2) what is with Niall and Maria's relationship?!

Daphne never misses

I can’t pin down my feelings about duMaurier. I like her books and I don’t like them. I find them both compelling and boring, pointless and meaningful.

Best as I can tell, if you like duMaurier, you’ll like this book. If you don’t, you won’t.
