Fun, chick lit!

It was funny and enjoyable. But not perfect.

Blech, 6 chapters in and the author rambles so much, the storyline hasn't advanced. I couldn't continue, I no longer care that the girl died, or that Heather Wells is a former pop star struggling to get by. I'm moving on.

Unofficial Synopsis

Heather Wells Rocks!

Well, she used to. But now she’s an assistant dorm director. Far cry from performing as a pop idol, but hey a girl has to pay the bills when your mom steals all your money.

When a young girl is found dead at the bottom of the elevator shaft in Heathers dorm room, it’s chalked up to an accident. But when it happens again, Heather knows its not accidental so she sets out to solve the mystery.

Review

I will say that the title is what drew me in, but the characters are what made me stay around. I loved getting to know Heather. She was such a likeable character. Her growth over the course of the book was also fantastic and she really came into herself over the course of the book. I found her also extremely relatable. This book is more chick-lit than mystery, though there is a little mystery in the book. More like mystery “light” if you will. And I enjoyed it. I guess it could be classified as a cozy mystery, but even that might be a stretch. This is a fun first book in the series and made me want to read more because I am just dying to find out what happens between the characters!

I don't generally read mysteries and wasn't expecting to get one in this book based on the title and cover. This was a light, fun read, but I will probably skip the rest of the series. I enjoy Meg Cabot's books because they always make me laugh.

It took me a good long while to get around to these books.
Mostly because I am, most assuredly, over a size 12 and I had a feeling these books where going to rub me the wrong way.
But I should have trusted Meg Cabot.
That's not to say that I'm not a little miffed by the amount of time people are pointing out Heather's weight to Heather because... yeesh. As a fat woman, I can tell you...random people don't just call you fat or chubby on the street. Or at least not on a every day occurrence level like it happens to Heather, who....really isn't fat.
That being said, I do understand her feelings regarding food and her own weight.
And other than that rubbing me the wrong ways, I really really love this character and this story.

I really loved this one. Meg Cabot creates such fun characters and interesting story lines. I can't wait to read the next one.

3.5/5 stars. This was a pretty good book, but not Meg Cabot's best. I'll probably read more of the Heather Wells' series, though.

A cute mystery. I was surprised by the murderer.
