This book is bad. About a quarter of the way through I realized the main character is unlikeable and by the end I hated her. She is an absolute idiot. She acts and thinks like a 16 year old though she’s nearly 30. Everyone does actually, it was so far past the realm of believable. I usually love fun chick lit and mysteries so I was really excited for this but it was a huge disappointment.

A light book--chick lit. Probably PG-13. Good for a quick read after an intense book.

This is a pretty dumb book. It's been on my to read list for a while, and I wanted something light and fluffy. I like light and fluffy every once in a while. But this was just dumb. And not enjoyable.

It's interesting going back and reading this after so much time! This came out in 2006 and reading it, I realized I'm the same age as Heather Wells. By 2006, I was well into my career; Heather, meanwhile, is working as an assistant director of a residence hall at NYU New York College, having lost her pop star career and fiance. She's put on some weight, is living with her ex-fiance's brother, and trying to figure out what to do with her life. And then some of the residents in her dorm start dying.

It's a fun murder mystery, helped by the fact that the characters don't realize that the residents were murdered until quite a ways into the book, so it reads more like chick lit than murder mystery. Reading it, I alternated between being like, "Size 12 isn't fat!" and being annoyed that Heather is pretty much always eating and is too lazy to stand up to shower (she takes baths). Like, size 12 isn't actually that big, but also, people who are heavier don't necessarily spend all their time eating. I got more annoyed with it than I expected.

Still, a fun book. I'll probably wind up re-reading the entire series.

Heather Wells is one of my new all-time favorite characters. What a fun, light-hearted series to spend my summer with.

as a size 12 myself the title of this book is what instantly attracted me to it. Heather Wells is a great new character to build a series around- she's a washed up pop singer whose mother fled the country with all her money and her pop singer boyfriend cheated on her. So she's working at the fictional New York University when the bodies start dropping. It's a fast, fun book!

I should have stopped reading this book but I was interested in finding out who the killer was. Otherwise, the main character is immature, obsessed with food and weight in an unhealthy way, and annoying. She makes excuses for people treating her and other people in the book poorly, constantly reminds the reader she isn't fat, yet continually judges others on their appearance.

I should probably change this review from 2 to 1 stars. I won't be reading book 2 in the series.

There was nothing wrong with this book, but it just didn’t live up to what I expect from Meg Cabot.
lighthearted mysterious

A cozy mystery that was easy to read.
