This is a bit of a nostalgic read for me. I loved Meg Cabot when I was a pre-teen and growing up in 2000s diet culture, this book was pretty revolutionary for how I think of my body, plus I like a murder mystery.

When I first read this, probs back in middle school, I gave it like a 5 haha. I’d say a big part of it is finding myself relating a lot to a “bigger” girl which finding those types of heroines are super rare especially back then. I’m not saying this books I bad by any means by rating it so much lower now, just that my tastes have refined a bit and while I love a good thriller, I’ve seen this type of book done far better in other reads.

One of my biggest issues is the repetitiveness of so much of this book. I get that it’s called “size 12 is not fat” but the amount of times this is repeated throughout this book is truly insane. While I completely agree with statement, and tbh would give anything to be that size again, it felt like the point was so beyond hammered home there was nothing left. I also love the idea of Heather being a former teen star, but hated the chapters beginning with her songs, especially when it added nothing to the story, and I really that that would add some complexity to her character, but all it really gave us was her annoying ex continually popping up. And even that didn’t seem to conclude with much despite them hooking up again. I think part of this issue is this is clearly the start of a series so we aren’t really giving anything development wise. Even with the love interest we aren’t given too much which is kind of frustrating.

Overall though it’s a cute thriller that’s an easy and quick read. I didn’t guess the killer which is nice, though in my opinion that’s because it wasn’t really that well done. It kind of came out of nowhere and once they were revealed the personality seemed to completely flip. It’s not the best of these kind of books I’ve read, but not a bad read. If you want a fluffy and enjoyable mystery that you don’t have to think too much about, five this one a go.

I love the heather wells character. Need to read the final in the series... Big Boned

Fun fluff read.
