Enjoyable, but it also got repetitive and annoying. There was a running "joke" where the main character kept calling her place of work a dorm when she was supposed to say residence hall. That got repeated over and over throughout the book and I guess it was supposed to be funny? It wasn't, and it got old fast. There were several other things like that.
I haven't decided yet if I'm going to continue the series. On the one hand, I got hooked in a bit with the central not-yet-romantic relationship and I want to see how that plays out. On the other hand, I found the dynamics of that relationship annoying half the time.

Honestly this book is simply ok. First off the title is a bit misleading and I was looking more for a bit of plus size girl humor type chick lit, this is not it.
Second of all as it has been said in other reviews, Meg Cabot becomes quite redundant in what can best be said to be "catch phrasing" yet they're mere annoyances and reminders of things the reader can't forget. Like constant mention of Heather Wells past as a pop star, as if we could forget a major premise of the book. Or her constant reassurance "size 12 isn't fat, it’s the size of the average American woman," or her constant reminder "after my six month probation is up" or "I hope this doesn't mess up my six month probation" if some of this fluff wasn't there it would have made for a better story.
I don't know if I'll be reading anymore Heather Wells pieces, maybe the 2nd to see if it’s a constant theme of redundant information or just a first time murder mystery. I normally love Cabot's work so this was disappointing

It's pretty much exactly what you'd expect from a kitschy novice detective chick lit. Entertaining, easy read. I need some fluff.
Meg Cabot's books are always light and entertaining. It's not as good as the Princess Diaries but it was definitely funny at times and had a swiftly moving story line.

DNF a little earlier than I usually give up, around page 50-something.
For a character who's dealing not only with weight issues, but the public perception of her body due to her being a former pop star...maybe she shouldn't body-shame other women?
Early on, I actually liked the way Heather handled the sales assistant who was being borderline-rude to the thin girl in the dressing room next to hers. That gave me hope, that this wasn't going to be a fat-girl story that does nothing but thin-shame.
But later Heather has a whole internal monologue about how pointy and stick-like and un-huggable another woman is, and that's okay, I guess, because it's not a stranger this time--it's a character she actively dislikes.
Yeah, sure, that makes it completely okay.
