Trigger warnings: murder, some fat phobia.
3.5 stars.
I'd never read anything by Meg Cabot before, but I've been intrigued by this for a while now. And it was...pretty solid? I liked Heather as a character. I liked her investigating the crimes and interacting with Cooper and her being all "HEY, STOP CALLING ME FAT WHEN I'M THE SAME SIZE AS THE AVERAGE U.S. WOMAN". All of that was great.
That said, I could have done without all the insipid song lyrics at the start of each chapter. I could have done without every second character pointing out Heather's weight when, like, a size 12 honestly IS. NOT. FAT. (Yes, I know it's a US size 12 and not an Australian or UK size 12. Still not fat, yo.)
Am I interested enough to keep reading? Maybe. But, like, when I finish pretty much everything on my TBR.

One of a handful of times I haven't been able to see the killer coming s mile off.
Enjoyable and has the perfect narrator.

I love Meg Cabot. A lot.
I'm also a mystery writer. And her mystery writing is flawed. The motive for the murders was easily guessed early on. The leading/red herrings too obviously placed.
I love the characters. I shipped Heather and Cooper hard. Although Heather could be really stupid sometimes, her love's in the right place.
This may not be right for die-hard mystery fans, but as a Meg Cabot fan, it's like frosting.

Fast-faced, funny and highly entertaining - just what I want from a paperback. I loved the heroine and was bursting for her to get together with the mysterious and sexy PI Cooper. Will be reading more from this author definately.
Perhaps it's that the crime figher in the novel and I share a maiden name, but I really loved this book. A real quick, easy, fun read with enough of depth to really enjoy the characters and the plot. I was really happy to see that there are other books starring Heather Wells and can't wait to get to them :) Excellent considering it was the title that jumped out at me while walking through the local library and I hadn't read anything from Meg Cabot yet. :)
Wow this book is so bad and proof that literally anyone can write a book. I’m not sure where to start exactly between the body shaming of thin people or the misunderstanding of what an Oedipus complex actually is to say “the opposite of”. Should I discuss the annoying main character and her obsession with her ex’s brother Or her ridiculous fantasies that appear at the most in opportune time? Or how about how many times “resident hall” is used as a correction for dorm, you know, just in case the reader is so stupid they didn’t get it the first 27,000 times! The only reason I even finished this was because I needed to finish a prompt for my reading challenge and this was the only one that I had on my to read list. Man, this was a bad choice. The story itself was absolutely ridiculous; the pace of the story was beyond annoying, and I wish I can unread this.
Really great book, enjoyed rereading it, loved the mystery! Heather's such a great narrator! Loved her commentary!!!
