Holy guacamole that was a beautiful story. I’m so glad the author decided to shock her family and write/self publish this full length novel out of nowhere. To be honest she shocked me too, in the best of ways. I loved everything about it, especially the H and the depth of her empathy as well as the slow building chemistry between the main characters. Simon was such an interesting alien and so unique compared to other sci-fi romances. I truly hope the author creates more content.

I've seen this book recommended multiple times, and I wasn't disappointed. I love Gemma. She has a mental toughness that makes her so intriguing. She is the definition of turning lemons into lemonade. However, despite her inner strength she's filled with kindness. She puts others before herself again and again. The way that Hope describes the universe is fascinating. I enjoyed the descriptions of the different types of aliens and planets. Although I didn't like Simon at first, he eventually grew on me. As the story develops, we observe Simon's fierce protectiveness over Gemma. As their relationship developed, Simon proved to be a physical and emotional support for Gemma on multiple occasions. He's definitely not a human like alien. The physical and cultural differences between Simon and Gemma are a big theme in the book.
I hope we get a glimpse of their lives on the new planet in the next book so that we can delve deeper into these conflicts
. If you like the grumpy sunshine trope, you'll probably like this.

I really enjoyed this! The author created such a rich world and cast of characters, and I appreciated the more realistic slow burn of the romance, especially with how inhuman the hero was. I’m also a sucker for prison settings, and loved how most of the story took place there. At first I was sad that this was the author’s only alien romance, but I saw they just updated with a new book that’s coming out in two days, so I’ll definitely be picking that one up!

A very dark, dystopian sci-fi slow-burn romance (yum). My only complaint is that I think the book could use an extra chapter or two tagged onto the end to sum it all up better. For the most part, there was an overarching sense of foreboding and hopelessness, which was only overcome in the last few pages. I would have liked to see Gemma and Simon have a bit more of a HEA - I feel like they were robbed a bit by cutting the book off so abruptly.

I belong to a subreddit R/Romancebooks and as an avid romance book reader, I noticed that this book was mentioned a lot by others who simply loved it. I was very curious because I have never read an “alien-romance” so I thought why not. Well… ummm… not gonna lie it was weird. Definitely not my wheelhouse. I am completely comfortable reading about vampires and werewolves and Fae being romantically involved with humans but my mind somehow has a hard line drawn for alien romances- who knew? Ok maybe not hard line but definitely something that seems much more taboo for some reason to me. Idk
