A deceptively gut wrenching and prescient book. I wasn't sure what to expect stepping into this book, but it was really difficult for me to put this down once I got started. I do think that the obvious comparison is Klara and the Sun by Kazuo Ishiguro; however, I think that I resonated more with the themes explored here. 

If you're looking into reading this book, I would definitely recommend a quick scan of the content warnings. There are some really disturbing and harrowing scenes in this book.

A raw, unapologetic reflection on the many facets of humanity. It left me feeling contemplative - turned inside out with conflicting emotions.

Would I recommend it? Absolutely.

Would I myself dive in again? Only if I were prepared to once more disassemble my perspective on humanity and myself.

it’s important to note that one of the human characters does not think of the main AI character as “alive” or “real” and therefore doesn’t treat her with the kind of decency often afforded to a human. This can be quite upsetting but if you can power through it’s worth the read.

Stunning. Will be really poignant but also difficult for anyone who’s ever been in an abusive relationship or has struggled with the anxiety of being a people pleaser. A fantastic (and horrifying) sci-fi book.

An interesting exploration of AI, of femininity, of humanity, of abusive relationships. Annie is a robot, owned by Doug, a manipulative, emotionally and verbally abusive man who gets off on having power and influence over Annie. Doug’s red flags can be seen from space. Annie may be an AI sexbot, but I still rooted for her the whole way through.
