Okay, I’ll be honest: Saxon James doesn’t always resonate with me, but I did enjoy this story. I love, love, love Beau’s character. He definitely deserves his quirky title. Non-canonically neurodivergent in my opinion, which I always appreciate. He was so in his head—in the best way possible—just doing and saying what was on his mind, which I found so endearing. I really liked the moments when Beau and Payne worked through Beau’s book scenes; I had a big smile on my face during the sword fight battle.
I felt like Payne wasn’t angry enough. I mean, the man you spent a fourth of your life with is on OnlyFans sleeping with other men, and all you do is throw his laptop off a balcony? I don’t know, man. There were some moments later in the book where he shows more anger about his ex, which made it seem more realistic.
I did really like that Payne was always willing to join in on Beau’s antics. I liked them together a lot. They were very different but had great chemistry—not just sexually. How Marty would react to them being together was really stressing me out because he seemed adamant that they could never work, but the way it played out was very sweet, and it felt realistic considering everyone is older.
I loved the audiobook; Nick J Russo always eats up the narration.

Sweet, low angst contemporary. Divorced Men's Club story.
Nice and easy if you just switch off.
I call these types of books my “inbetweeners”. They just kind of fill the gap until I find something I really want to read.
The characters are likeable enough, the plot is fine (albeit not entirely unique), not too cheesy but they do tend to be very superficial and therefore forgettable.

Wasn't what I expected, but it wasn't bad. Enjoyable.
This is such a perfect story of "You don't need to be perfect, just perfect for me." Beau and Payne are such lovely men. While Payne had to deal with his journey of starting over after divorce, I was pleasantly surprised to see that Beau's journey seemed deeper. He had such self-doubt really had to learn that he was great and loveable as is. What a fantastic 1st book. Ms. James continues to blow me away with everyday relatable characters who are real and flawed. I'm really looking forward to the rest of the series.
