Kingmakers: Year One

Sophie Lark

3.75 AVERAGE

Finally decided to start the series as we get ready for the third book installment in two weeks. I am hooked. I intentionally stay away from most romance novels that are geared towards pre-teen or teenagers because I often feel that when you get to a certain point in life, you want stories that relate to some your life experiences and level of maturity.
This book knocked my socks off. I loved the intro with Leo and Anna. It's critical that anyone who starts reading Sophie's books pick up the birthright series first. It builds this whole picture and ties all the stories together.
Fingers crossed, I hope to see Sophie Lark's books turned into a mini movie series soon.

DID NOT FINISH: 4%

Went back to read Brutal Birthrights. Finished the first book and decided I would not be reading anymore.

DNF at 40% I might try finishing this book later on but honestly I just could not get into it! I don't know what it is but this has defintley been my least favorite mafia book I've read so far. I just feel like not much has happened and I'm already halfway through the book?

The Kingmakers series is the next generation of the Brutal Birthright Series. You don't have to read Brutal Birthright to enjoy it but it does add to the enjoyment if you do. I highly recommend at least looking through the family trees that are included in the beginning of the book.

I was very much intrigued by this series because while I am not the biggest mafia trope fan, I actually really enjoyed reading the first book in the Brutal Birthright series. The Kingmakers has a great concept. All the Mafia-family spawn go to the same "college" to have a safe haven from each other, as well as learn the ropes of the workings of the mafia. Then the Quartum Bellum begins and it's all adventure, suspense and then love. In the end, it was nice to see Leo grow as a leader.

The audio version was narrated by Chloe Ryan, Michael Gallaher and Gregory Salinas. Chloe and Michael are both new-to-me narrators and I enjoyed their performance. I believe in how they told Leo and Anna's stories. Gregory Salinas played Dean. He was very dark in this one, just like the character.

Thoughts: WHY IS THIS SOOO LONG?!???! Not a fan..I cannot remember what I thought of the last book I read from this author, but I was just not a fan of this one. The whole triangle thing..just like why? Received this book in a book box, had it not been for that I do not believe I would've read this.

I have few words but the most important thing I'll say is that this book put me through it!!

I loved each of the characters except Dean (IYKYK) and the slowish burn between Anna and Leo had me huffing in irritation. Friends to Lovers can be rough on a reader, mmkay?

The school setting is so idyllic and I could envision each scene perfectly. The different types of classes and specialties within the years was so fun. I am convinced that I would be a cool Enforcer lol.

Sophie did a great job with this book and I cannot wait to read the remaining books in the series

Finally circling back

4 5 stars I started this series reading book 3. (Yes, I know you're not supposed to do that, but it's fine) So to circle back was...interesting. This is a tale told in 3 POVs; Anna, her best friend Leo and Dean. Leo left his full ride to join Anna at Kingmakers and Dean..he's got grudges. This was totally worth the read, especially knowing how book 3 and 4 pan out, it's a wild ride and it gets a little dark in spots. Leo and Anna were so beautiful together when it finally happened. I won't leave it so long to dive into The Rebel.
