This book was intense. Leo Gallo doesn’t mess around and I kind of find that extremely refreshing. Anna and Leo have a forbidden cousin by marriage romance and they’ve been in each others lives for forever. They’re perfect for each other I loved watching their relationship blossom even though it was intense.

This book is great! It is amazingly written and you’ll get in love with the characters!

Kingmakers: Year One by Sophie Lark

NGL, I actually started this novel last year (meaning December), read the bulk of it, and finished the last couple chapters this past week. 2024 really was the year of unfinished books.

My not being able to finish a book had nothing to do with the book quality. I really enjoy Sophie Lark’s books and characters so I’ve been so excited to read this series.

I really enjoyed the dark academia vibes that this book had. The school’s different cliques are a really interesting way to switch up the mafia background of this series.

Our MCs, while fun characters, drove me NUTS! Yall need to do better at communicating people!! So many aspects of this could’ve been fixed by the two of them being open and honest.

I’m itching for Deans book because I both love him and hate him. Bro has been struggling w/ life and I want someone to come help him make sense of his life.

Great series start!!

Very "fun" read. Large variety of vocabulary so that was fun. Not a fan of Dean though.

Also, what in the actual fuck was this line?

"Leo kisses my foot, then he runs his tongue from my heel, all the way along the instep up to my toes."

i love a good friends to enemies to lovers and this book delivered so well. the groveling, anticipation, pining, angst, i loved it all so much. leo and anna balance each other out perfectly.

not fully sure how i feel about dean. he was a terrible boyfriend to anna, and i hate how he acted towards her. but i’m inclined to feel a bit empathic towards him considering his past. then again, he did try to drown leo, so…. nvm

another thing i enjoyed reading about was the competition game. it added more of a want to know what would happen next. and kept me on my toes to figure out how the competitions would play out.

having 3 points of views felt a bit unnecessary tbh i hated reading the extra pov, it was pretty annoying. also, love triangles are one of my least favorite trope, so makes sense why i didn’t fully love this book

I loved this book so much even though I wanted the to throw it across my room so many times

Sophie was right when she said she was gonna make us hate Dean I wanted to commit war crimes I was ready to turn the Geneva convention into the Geneva to do list because of him. But like I love Leo and Anna so as much as he annoyed me it was worth it

Hated the characters. Loved the setting. Had so much potential.

really enjoyed this

there was a nice scene that reminded me of Nathan & Haley from OTH, if they didn’t end up together

exciting plot and characters! liked having the three POVs, excited to get to Dean’s book, he has a lot of work to do

I’m super invested and jumping right into the next book

also as always, I absolutely loved the art throughout the book!
