This book was such shit. Worst one of the series. I hope the next one is better. Ugh.

This may have been my favorite one yet in the series. Didn't leave me hanging and wondering so much. Seems like the story was told with little distraction and I appreciate that :)
I will continue to follow Mr. Odd Thomas.

I love Odd Thomas books, and this one was good it just felt kind of forced, like he needed another "Odd" book to be published before it's time. There was not a whole lot of Odd's signature ghostly interactions, but the plot was interesting and mystrious, actually a lot of questions did not get answered and hopefully those answers will come in [b:Odd Apocalypse|13154933|Odd Apocalypse (Odd Thomas, #5)|Dean Koontz|http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1344370365s/13154933.jpg|18333180]

I don't know how I missed this volume when originally reading the series...but, finally came back around to it and found it just as good as the others - with the same narrative style and wry sense of humor that I enjoy.

A few snippets that jumped out enough to make me tag them:

"The truth inspires a question: If evil geniuses are so rare, why do so many bad people get away with so many crimes against their fellow citizens and, when they become leaders of nations, against humanity?

Edmund Burke provided the answer in 1795: The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing."

I would only add this: It is also essential that good men and women not be educated and propagandized into believing that real evil is a myth and that all malevolent behavior is merely the result of a broken family's or a failed society's shortcomings, amenable to cure by counseling and by the application of new economic theory."

"The voltmeter. To hell with the voltmeter. I had no idea what a voltmeter did. Probably not more than one in a million people knew what a voltmeter did. Yet there it was, occupying a prime lower-left corner of the gauge board, so proud of itself, mocking everyone who was not a lifelong seaman with high voltmeter awareness."

"James Bond, especially as played by Daniel Craig, would have snatched up the satchel as if it contained politicians' promises. Smiling insouciantly, he would have dashed off with the ... at a pace qualifying him as a marathon runner in the Olympics.

Bond, of course, has the advantage of being fortified with a diet largely consisting of martinis. I drink nothing stronger than red wine, and not much of that."

I really love the character of Odd Thomas and have enjoyed the other books in this series, but this book was kind of weird to me. I found that I didn't really care much for a lot of the characters. I liked Ghost Elvis, but Ghost Sinatra was a bit much.

Koontz, as always, proves that he can create a loveable character and enough witty dialogue to keep readers engaged in the story. I enjoyed Odd Hours very much.

That said...I'm not sure how I feel about the choices Odd was forced to make during the resolution of this book. No spoilers, but just see if by the end of this book you don't feel something of the innocence that is Odd is lost. I didn't feel much development out of the antagonists, but perhaps this is because Koontz left the ending open as a setup for a 5th Odd book.
