This book reminded me of the Bride Quartet series by Nora Roberts.

The Boardwalk Bookshop is the story of three women who co-own a retail space together. Bree owns the Boardwalk Bookshop. Ashley owns a bakery outlet, Muffins to the Max, and Mikki owns The Gift Shop. The space was too large for one of them, so the three decided to rent out the space for all of them to use. Bree is the child of famous authors who was neglected as a child. She also had a difficult marriage. As a result, she isn't looking for a romantic relationship and puts all of her energy into her business. Mikki has been divorced for three years and is looking to start dating again. She has a great relationship with her ex-husband and ex-inlaws which makes dating again a bit sticky. Ashley is in a relationship with her boyfriend of a year. They live together and Ashley is hoping her boyfriend will propose soon.
I have several of Susan Mallery's books and this one does not disappoint. It is typical of her books in that the story is good, the characters are interesting, and I am happy to read more. Each of the women's stories are relatable and character growth happens throughout the story. The side characters are interesting as well. Another review stated that they wished there was an epilogue at the end and I wished for that as well. I am a sucker for epilogues and hope the characters get what they hope for in the end.
Susan Mallery has been an author I’ve enjoyed for many years. I remember reading the Fools Gold Series years ago. I remember falling in love with each book and it’s characters. But it has been years since I’ve read any of her work. It’s very clear to me that in those years she’s only grown and become even better.
This book definitely surpassed my expectations. I have to admit that about 3/4 of the way through I was a little worried as to how she would bring the story around, but she did and it didn’t disappoint.
For the majority of the book I did not like Brees character. I thought she was cold, cruel and her self loathing was annoying. But that was the point. By the last page I loved her and found myself wishing that she were a real person so I could hug her.
Harding was fantastic. One of the best “book boyfriends” of the year. (I’d rate him right up there with Gus from Beach read and Adam from The Love Hypothesis.)
Mikki was my favorite and But I’m not sure I totally love Duane. (Although I was rooting for him the entire time.)
Ashley’s story was the least interesting, but I loved her ending.
The entire story was so well developed. It felt like a real place and real moments in time.
I’m rating it four stars instead of five because it was a little more drawn out than it needed to be (in my opinion) it became a little too repetitive and depressing, and while I loved the ending to everyone’s story. I kind of wished we could have gotten there sooner. But I’m not known for patience so that’s probably definitely a “me” problem more than the books.
Super good Summer read.❤️
