I absolutely loved this book! It was perfectly sweet, and the character development is amazing! The three interlocking storylines is interesting, and I loved the kinds of women that this book brought us into the lives of. Definitely staying on my bookshelf for a re-read in the future!

We meet three ladies who decided to lease a shop lease on the boardwalk. Bree owns and runs the bookshop; Mikki owns and runs the gift shop and Ashley owns and runs the bakery. Every Friday to celebrate their businesses, their friendship they all meet on the beach out the front of their shop. There they discuss their lives and help each other to be the best they can be.
Bree hasn’t had a tough upbringing, her parents had her but didn’t really want her and she has made all the decision for herself from an early age. She has trouble trusting people which in turn makes it hard for her to make friends.
Mikki is divorced and is struggling to take the next step to meet someone new. With help from her friends, she signs up on as online dating site. She meets someone but has to make the decision, is this really what she wants or does she want to get back with her husband?
Ashely wants to get married but learns that Seth doesn’t, can they work things out or are they parting ways?
As we follow the 3 friends and their lives, we learn more about them. I really enjoyed all the characters but found Bree a bit annoying and quite childlike at times. I could understand Mikki’s doubts about dating again, it was well written and believable. I felt sorry for Ashley when she learns that Seth doesn’t want marriage. I liked the way Susan Mallery dealt with all the situations the characters found themselves in. Their friendship and the way they helped each other was so good. The plot line was good and well-paced.
So, if you are looking for a good summer read then pick this one up.

Picked this one up as an impulse airport purchase, as I am a sucker for books about women reinventing themselves and owning bookstores (yes, there are many.) But I struggled to finish it. The characters were not particularly likable, but worst of all were the absolutely jarring and cringey explicit sexual language and sex scenes. I’m not a prude, mind you, and I cuss like a sailor, but the sex scenes and supposedly flirty banter were so poorly written and so unnecessarily crude that I hesitated even to leave the book on the beach reads bookshelf of the AirBnB I rented. While I was reading it, my son kept asking things like, “Mama, why are you making that sour face?” And “Mama, your face looks like you are smelling a bad smell while you are reading” and that was pretty much my experience…a scene would be rolling along halfway enjoyably and then out of nowhere…eeeew. Cringe. I was embarrassed for the book. :) Please, please tell me people don’t actually talk like this in the single world today.
The heroines were all so unlikeable, and the heroes weren’t much better. The story jumped around, most of the time without any transitions. Finished it, but by the end I was hate reading.
