BEST BEST BEST FAVORITEST FAVORITE SQUEEEEEEEE

Colin was always my fave and now his book is my fave and PENELOPE ugh I'm just a puddle of feeeeeelings

I want to marry into the Bridgerton family I have such a problem

This is also the Bridgerton books (so far) with the least (almost no!) problematic elements for which I'm divinely grateful

so glad that Julia stopped with the possessive anger issues and most ESPECIALLY stopped doing that THEY MUST MARRY BECAUSE SCANDAL!!! thing and most especially that no one had to get married because of bees

Totally called THE THING like two whole books ago ;)

I was pretty excited to read this installment of the series. I'm a sucker for the trope where the hero falls in love with the woman he'd been overlooking for years.

I did appreciate how well set up the protagonists' shared interest in writing was, but a couple things bumped my rating down to 4 stars.

1) I already knew from previous books that there'd be a lot of banter, but the amount in Colin and Penelope's book was mind-numbing. Everyone had to get a quip in, it was infuriating! I skimmed the 2nd epilogue because it was 80% banter, and not the sexy kind.

2) I really wished there had been at least one more sex scene because it would've been a palate-cleanser after all the banter, and after Penelope had been pining for twelve long years.

LOVED PENELOPE. And I liked Collin. He really just needed to have some sense knocked into him. I get that he needed to realize what he was looking for, but it sorta bothers me that Penelope is left pining for him while he roams the world, you know?

SPOILER AHEAD:

I didn't really see how Penelope was Lady Whistledown. She was the narrator of the majority of the book, and even in her thoughts she didn't give anything away, which I find weird. I get that Quinn wanted to have a big reveal, but the fact that Penelope doesn't let a single clue slip from her thoughts was silly. Granted, going into the book, I figured it would be her anyway.

4.5 Stars - ugly duckling story minus the whole turning into a swan bit.

Colin, Colin, Colin.. You'd have been my favorite Bridgerton hero if it weren't for Michael. Then again, I don't think there's anyone in the history of romance novels who could top Michael.

The secret of Lady Whistledown's identity (though painfully obvious to the careful reader) is finally revealed. After the fuss everyone made about how much of a disaster this revelation would be, I was admittedly disappointed at not being shown the outcome.

The romance, as per usual of this series, was a delicious slow burn.

The heroine was smart, independent (or as much as a woman in 1812 can be), witty, unapologetic, loyal, and kind.

The hero was.. Well, it's Colin. He's the extremely observant, almost all knowing, Brigerton brother. The rake of the family whom all the mama's of the ton can't help but adore because of how charming he is. He's also the very same jackass who publicly declared ten years ago that he'll never marry our heroine. *evil laugh* How do those words taste, Colin?

Sweet, funny, heartwarming, no angst, no drama, a perfect historical romance.. I liked this one just as much as Kates and Anthonys story. 5 stars.

I love Bridgertons and their significant others. They are an entertaining lot for sure.

it was lovely.
