Heading back into the guards watch was so fun! I loved this, the story was engaging and funny as always as well as the mystery aspect had me hooked. I loved Carrot and Colon and Nobby and Vimes and all the new watch members! Cuddy and Detritus were a great addition, I loved their friendship, I was so upset at the end, my jaw dropped when I read death’s lines :( will miss the little dwarf!!
I loved this book. It made me laugh, it made me cry, and I was excited to turn each and every page. There is a bit of sadness I hold for Pterry Pratchett books knowing that there are only so many left after every one that I read. But i guess that makes each one even more special. Though a bit dated and somewhat trope-y the love story that was woven throughout was also a highlight and at some points actually my favorite part. I want to read and live in the Discworld forever and I've only read two books. 5/5 it was a Great read.
There's just something about the Night Watch books that I always find delightful whenever I dip into Discworld. I think it's a combination of the characters' unique personalities, how they interact off each other, how they deal with the world around them, and of course all the madness that goes on in their city that they fumble around dealing with.
Carrot and Vimes were the stand-outs, though the newer recruits were all excellent as well. As usual, the book is packed to the brim with jokes, social commentary, and crazy shenanigans. I feel like these books deserve multiple readings just to get a feel for all the layers that go into them. I also really enjoyed the cameos from Death as they tried to be more of a "people person".
Overall just really fun and delightful. Sometimes I feel bad reading these out of order, as I don't think I get the progression of certain arcs as much. Maybe some day I'll read them all sequentially. For today, it was good being back in Discworld with the Night Watch.
