While the side cast can't compare to Carrot and especially Vimes, the story was funny yet resonating, and the ending was awesome.

Can I join the Watch?
Damn. When Sir Terry brings the stuff he doesn't stint on it. This is justy a great book from start to finish - a solid police procedural/thriller page turner, a rumination on the nature of governance, a second thematic line on gun control, a third on the nature of hiring in civil service jobs, and clearly defined story arcs for who will be the three main characters of the Watch books going forward.
Absolutely a "I can read until 1 in the morning with no ill effects worse than the immediate ones that will happen when I try to stop reading" book. Top notch stuff.

This Discworld book is good because Pratchett continues to develop Carrot, to make him more human (or more of a character in his own right). I also really liked Pratchett's description of the gonne.
A story of what happens when you try to take the cop out of Vimes, and when the city finds it rightful King. Not that the King wants the job.
Oh, and a gunne.
And I think, the introduction of the Leonard of Quirm. And possibly one of the best introductions to the Guilds in the entire Discworld series.
