It has taken me awhile since finishing this book to come up with the words to express how much I loved this book! I am a huge fan of Emily, particularly because of her slow burns. She does slow burn like no other. It is not just slow where nothing happens. It is pages and pages of tension and longing until finally things heat up. The tension between Enzo & Venesa completely pulled me in. They were the definition of forbidden since Enzo was engaged to Venesa’s cousin, Aria.

There is a little bit of a backstory with how Aria and Enzo met but it might not be how it appears. After meeting, Enzo’s NYC mafia family and Aria’s powerful family in South Carolina came to an agreement for them to be married. But when Enzo & Aria come to SC to plan their wedding, someone else captures Enzo’s attention.

I really loved the way that Enzo saw Venesa for who she was and was still intrigued by her. He stuck up for her in ways that no one else ever had. The more Aria showed her true colors, the more Enzo saw things clearly and his vision for his future completely changed. Venesa was such a strong and fierce woman and the way she handled herself was amazing. Unfortunately, Venesa had to find out a lot of things about who she thought was her family but don’t you worry, she made sure to make things right! Enzo was such a huge support for her and I just love the way that he loved her.

Emily McIntire is ALWAYS amazing. Once again, incredibly well-written. The way she sneaks references to The Little Mermaid is well done and very clever. Would have been 5 stars, but personal preference made it 4 just because I’m not really into the whole mafia thing.
