I didn’t like how in this book they decided to give yellowfang a power that is not shown or hinted at in the main series. I’m pretty sure it was only introduced only to give a reason for Yellowfang to be forced into the medicine cat den. Did she really need to be forced into the medicine cat den? Couldn’t she have just helped out in there for some reason then find out she was good at it or had more interest healing her classmates more than fighting? Too many characters are forced to be medicine cats just because disability or powers for no reason. Then yellowfang learns to block out other cat’s pain so it ends up being pointless.
Because most of yellowfang’s big events that we know happens doesn’t happen until she is a warrior the book had to find events to happen to fill up portions of her life. I feel like that was another reason that she was given her powers. The story with Raggedpelt was fine but it felt like we didn’t need a book in order to cover her whole life up to meeting firepaw.
There wasn’t really any good characters either other than yellowfang. Everyone was really boring. Raggedpelt mistreats his mate and is partially to blame for the brokentail situation. Sagewhisker forced yellowfang to be a medicine cat.
