Crookedstar's Promise had NO RIGHT to be THAT emotionally damaging.
I was unsure as to why Crookedstar was getting his own Super Edition, considering he hasn't played much of a role in the series since The Prophecies Begin, but his story does tie in with Omen of the Stars.
I really enjoyed seeing the Riverclan dynamic, considering we have only got to see Thunderclan, Skyclan, and small glimpses of the other clans/the tribe etc. It has made me excited to read further stories stepping away from Thunderclan.

I thought hard about what to score this. I knew it would be a four or higher, but wasn't sure. I always knew I would never give a Warriors book a five star because let's face it, these books aren't literary masterpieces and most of the time a mess. I consider this series my "trash" series. As in I know these books aren't good but I think they're entertaining and I do get quite a bit of enjoyment from them. I wouldn't be reading them if I didn't. You can find joy from not so good things too and not everything has to be amazing.
The most unfortunate part of Warriors for me is that their main focus is plot and not character. Characters are molded to forward that plot instead of characters molding it. But Crookedstar's Promise has no plot. And I think that's its strongest point. It is a character driven story and I find Crookedstar to be an engaging character. We see his life from birth to death and the tragedies that befall him. His mother's rejection, his naivete at believing Mapleshade and how she is able to manipulate him, and losing all those he cares about. Yet he is still able to persevere.
I also love his relationship with Willowbreeze. Most of the time it is insta-love but we get to see their relationship build. Unlike Oakheart and Bluefur. They deserved better especially in Bluestar's own book.
I love Crookedstar as a character and I found myself invested in this book just as much as the first time I read it over five years ago. This is the best super edition Warriors has and for me, nothing has ever reached this level of quality. Is it perfect? No. Does it still have the same problems the series as a whole has? Of course. But no Warriors book makes me feel like this one does. Which is why I decided to give it five stars, something I rarely do.

Love this as a companion to Bluestars SE. Crookedstar sure did try his best
