One of the best Warrior Cats books. Very sad, made me tear up at times. Good portrayal of lasting effects of trauma. Very focused on the protag, but I don't think it's a bad thing.
Goes in nicely with Bluestar's Promise, so reading that one is a good idea if you're wondering which Warriors book to read next.

This book had many twists and turns and nice character developmen. It had also many sad aspects
like the mother of crookedstar who just abandoned her child because she could. Like others have said, Mapleshade seems to be everywhere, since i still have to read the thrird series, i am not entirely familiar with her but nonetheless agree on that point. Also her reasoning didn't make much sense to me, why she chose specifically Crookedstar.
The middle chapters dragged a bit but the ending was really strong
even though we knew what had to happen since crookedstar had only one daughter in the first series.

From a technical perspective, I actually think this is one of the better Warriors books - often with these books my suspension of disbelief can’t stretch quite as far as it needs to, but there was much less to jolt me out of the world in this one.

However. As much as I wanted to care about the storyline, this book bored me almost to tears. Maybe that’s partly on my end, but as much as I care about these books, I know it can’t be all me. I think it’s an okay book, and I definitely wouldn’t not recommend it to a fan of the series, but, of all the Warriors books I’ve read, it was simply one of the least interesting.

So, after thinking it over for a few days, my 4 star rating is a compromise - the writing quality is a 4.5, but the actual reading experience is closer to a 3.5, because it is simply not that interesting, dragging on and on, stuffed with extra information that does little to enrich the world or characters. Again, not a bad book. Just… Not a very good one? I can only think that maybe, if I’d read it just after finishing the third or fourth arc, it would have been a bit more engaging, but I don’t plan on rereading it to find out.

Amazing SE. I had a bunch of fun reading it, as well as a lot of crying. Crookedstar’s life is tragic, but it’s nothing that he can’t handle and I’m sure he wouldn’t use that wording himself. But I can’t help but find it extremely sad and heartbreaking that his only surviving kit ended up dying so young…

Soot, Willowbreeze, Oakheart, Brambleberry and other countless characters suit their purpose well and are lovely to read about.

I also live for more Crookedjaw and Bluefur friendship and him being so understanding of her plight took me by surprise and I really liked it.

Oakheart and Crookedstar’s fight at the end I felt was overly dramatic but his comfort of Silverkit made it worth everything.

Just.. awesome 😭😭😭
