After 10 months I've finally found the time to finish this monster of a book. While I've forgotten a lot from the beginning (and I again don't understand why it has taken me so long to finish while I had always taken my book everywhere with me), I know I enjoyed reading it a lot. Cassian being a focus in this book made my heart so happy, and I've gained so much respect for Nesta. While the end wasn't always enjoyable to read, this book did it again to take a place upon that memorable book shelf. It can teach things, and I'm grateful for it. This was a rollercoaster of a ride, but one day I will surely start this story again. I'm so excited what next book will bring!

I know this is a lot of people’s favorite of the series but I had such a hard time getting through it. The middle was so slowwwww. With all the others, I felt compelled to read them, basically couldn’t put them down, but this one didn’t do that for me until the last 200-ish pages. I do love the character arc for Nesta but I knew what was revealed about her LONG before they actually said it. I love the badass woman trope in here and the ability for women to take back their lives and ensure they’d never be hurt again. I can’t fathom that this is really the last book though. There’s so much left undone. Elian’s whole life hasn’t been sorted plus there’s potential war on the horizon. I guess you could write these books forever and keep winding around the violence of the different courts until they all no longer existed or until real peace was attained but is that even a real thing?

Ugh this book felt so long. And while Nesta grows on you in this book, I still really hate her for how caustic she was for 85% of this series. While there is a plot, the focus of this book is Nesta’s growth and her relationship with Cassian. The second half of the book moved faster than the first half since Nesta was no longer insufferable. The story was a little predictable but overall a decent read. I wish there were more details on the three magical objects made by the cauldron, since it definitely took a back seat to Nesta’s inner turmoil. The climax of the story felt a bit rushed too, with an easy out.

Not a perfect five because it dragged at times and could be overly preachy. Some of the themes of growth were a little too on the nose, with character reflections that came off as corny rather than meaningful and impactful.
