A quick and enjoyable read. This is still a good novella despite the overuse of the misunderstanding trope in romance books. With a curvy MC and both MCs being Black it was full of rep.

Narrator Rating: 3.0 stars
The narrator did a decent job, but nothing special.

To be honest I thought it was extremely cringe worthy and did not enjoy the book. The main character is pretty dim- I mean she tried to return the extra pastries she was given in “accident” and pay for them. Like come on, just take it and move on. And she assumed they just couldn’t count and that it happened to others and the business would do bad. Also once the *kinda spoiler alert* earthquake happened and she went to check on her friends in text I hated it. The way it was done and so repetitively- I also had no attachment to the characters as the book was short and didn’t care about others. Honestly the chef was my favorite but even he was lacking. The immediate switch and passion came out of nowhere and it was unnecessary.

Notes: The 4th in the "The Improbable Meet-Cute" novella series (6 stand-alone novellas released around Valentine's Day 2024), I liked this one well enough. I think some stories are well suited to novellas, but this one felt like it had so much potential to be a longer novel and have the relationships and characters explored more fully.

“I wasn’t giving everyone free stuff. I was giving you free stuff. Because I fell for you that first moment I heard you laugh that day.”

Okay this one was also a short-40-pages story but for some reason, I did not like it. It must have been the fact that both MCs are just not likable? Remember when I kept saying I don't like insta-love? Yeahp, this one is just not my cup of tea. It is possible to write a romance that is not insta-love in 40 pages so when I read this book, I was crawling so hard just to finish it. My main motivation is that it's just 40 pages! But I definitely did not expect that it was that hard to read that 40 pages of just...stupid conversation? Either ways, sure, you can read it but I wouldn't if I were you.

Daisy is so stupid. I think I'm just not the biggest fan of grumpy/sunshine when the sunshine is so painfully dumb. Who, in their right mind, thinks someone who is
literally slipping extra goodies into their bag
hates them?? I just think that this was too improbable of a meet cute. It's not a meet-cute. They "know" each other.

Also having sex with the guy you thought hated you a few hours ago because an earthquake proved otherwise is insane.
As a born-and-raised Californian, I (and the folks I know) often do have things hanging over the bed. I don't know why that bit bothered me so much but it did.

I didn't care for this short story at all. Did not like the plot, the characters or the writing. This author is just not my cup of tea.
