"The Rest of Us Just Live Here" is the kind of book you can finish in one sitting. The pace is fast, the writing is fun, and even though there’s a layer of fantasy happening in the background (a bit messy and not very well explained), what really kept me hooked were the characters and their personal struggles.

The family drama, the friendships, and the anticipation of being in your last year of high school (about to face college) are what truly bring this story to life.

The “fantasy” part feels almost like satire: zombies, blue lights, ancient gods... all of it happening in parallel, while the protagonists are just trying to live their “normal” lives. For me, that contrast was interesting, even if the fantasy itself wasn’t the strongest element.

In the end, it was a solid piece of entertainment: light, quick to read, and full of characters who feel very human. I’d recommend it if you like YA stories focused on friendship and family, without expecting a deeply developed fantasy plot.

What's funny is I hated the premise of this book and the first 50 pages. Now, I love it. So intriguing and kind of beautiful. There were so many big issues covered while also being witty and funny. I loved the strange YA fantasy tie in and thoroughly enjoyed these amazing characters. Oh "indie kids!"

SO good. A diverse cast with real human problems that are addressed in real human ways. Along with a deliciously overdramatic typical-supernatural-YA-novel subplot that happens simultaneously and seamlessly.

witty dialogue, fun characters, and a great setting. If you've ever wondered about the bystanders in every YA fantasy novel, wonder no more. This shirt book will pull you in and take you for a spin through senior year while the world twists and turns apart.
