An easy YA read. I liked the perspective of it being the other kids just watching the cool kids save the world, trying to go about their days.

In typical Patrick Ness style, he delivers a poignant coming-of-age tale in a completely original setting. Could spend a lot longer in the world he’s created and the characters he brings to life

actually one of my favourite young adult books i have ever read! patrick ness has always been one of my favourites and this was such a nice re-read, everything was written so well and the whole book was so good and the plot is so creative and the characters are so real and flawed and loveable and human!! one for the AGES i'm telling you all!
Moderate: Alcoholism, Animal death, Mental illness
Minor: Eating disorder
This book was incredibly. Patrick Ness is always an amazing author, and he managed to put a fantastic spin on your typical Chosen One type stories. Besides this, his representation is awesome: from mixed race kids and queer kids to kids with eating disorders and OCD, it's awesome to see things represented in teen novels that are hard to find. The main character is very real with relatable flaws and thought processes. I have especially fond memories of reading this book on the way home from the Kalahari Classic robotics tournament. It was so good I just had to finish it by the light of the streetlights. Truly an amazing book.
