A cute coming-of-age story of a completely normal kid growing up in a town full of superheroes. He just wants to go to prom, and get together with his best friend before he goes to college and she heads to Africa on a mission trip, but life (and the superheroes) just keep getting in the way.

More of a 4.5.
I really love Patrick Ness, so far his books are always a favorite of mine and this one was no exception
Especially due to the fact that the main character has ocd and a lot of things that I've dealt with. Not as severely but enough to understand some of it.
It's not perfect, it took a while for me to get into it but once you're in you're in.

Hmm.. Yeah.. Well..
For one I really did like the fact that it wasn't the main characters 'duty' etc to kick evils ass. But I also think that would've made for a better story.
It was pretty decent though, confused me a bit in the beginning. But eh! Its pretty neat to read a story from the normals side of town.
Read if you want something different to shake you up!

Lastig inkomen.
Het boek is aan de ene kant absurd, andere kant grappig, maar ook gewoon de strubbelingen van pubers.
Ik denk dat de doelgroep (YA) hier wel van smult.

I give this a solid 3.5. I did really enjoy it, but there were a few story lines that I wish were flushed out a little more. And I had a hard time following the story at the very beginning, mostly because there were some very vague components that I got seriously hung up on. But, overall, I really enjoyed this different take on the typical hero story.
The Indie kids story sounded so much more interesting than the one about these kids leaving high school and trying to figure out their relationships. I get that it is poking fun and showing you the "behind the scenes" of a story. But there is a reason why people don't write a whole book about the behind the scenes.
Ness' writing isn't bad in this. It flowed well and is strong but I just got more and more annoyed I wasn't getting a play by play of the Immortals vs Indies. Just snippets. Regardless, it has not put me off from picking up another book by Ness.
