AUDIO: I enjoy books that jab at cliche topics, while also staying within those boundaries. this book did a wonderful job at staying true to its theme. which is a groups of non chosen one kids dealing with their lives of OCD, anxiety, ED, Death and more while around them the chosen ones are fighting evil and saving the world. but our main group of kids really don’t give af. because my mom has neglected me yet again and called my sister with an ED fat. i couldn’t care less about the blue eyed zombies running around. the book reminds me of this tweets like “ if the zombie apocylypse started today i’d fuck someone, chug a bottle of wine, then die, i’m not dealing with the apocalypse” im glad that we got little snippets at the beginning of each chapter we got tiny snippets of the completely different “chosen one” stories going on

It's fair to say that The Rest of Us Just Live Here has been a pretty hyped up book this year. Not only is Patrick Ness a fantastic author, but he's also written a book that doesn't focus on The Chosen One. Mikey and his group of friends just want to graduate high school and go to prom. They have their own problems to deal with such as anxiety, OCD and eating disorders so zombies, ghosts and the end of the world are the last thing they want/need to worry about.
One of my favourite things about The Rest of Us Just Live Here was the little snippet at the beginning of each chapter that focuses on The Chosen One and the indie kids and their fight against this year's big-bad, and the little humour sneaked in there about YA tropes.
The Rest of Us Just Live Here wasn't as groundbreaking and amazing as I thought it would be, but it was interesting enough that I wanted to read on, and Patrick Ness undeniably has a talent for writing, especially writing such a diverse cast of characters with their own issues. Thinking back, not much actually happened but it was still entertaining enough that I wanted to read on. I guess what I'm saying is that The Rest of Us Just Live Here is a book that doesn't have a chosen one that has no faults and who has the fate of the world on their shoulders - they're normal teens with real-life issues in a less than normal town.
I'll definitely be picking up more Patrick Ness in the future.

Very well written teen novel about the kids who aren't the chosen ones. What I think is a realistic look at OCD behaviors. Definitely a good story with characters I cared about.
