My first time reading a book that is included in the "horror" genre. I've been meaning to read it for a while but I was always scared it would be scary; I was pleasantly surprised to find out that it wasn't.
I enjoyed the story, it has a lot of gore and "medical" scenes that could be disturbing to some people, but I'm not someone easily bothered by gore so that aspect wasn't an issue for me.
I also thought it would have some sort of romance aspect in it, but after reading it, it really doesn't need any romance. It wouldn't have been logical to add romance to the plot.
I'm not sure if I'll continue with the series, but overall it was a good time

Now this is what I call a morally grey MC. I loved the way she thought and justified her actions - her character development was excellent. The plot, which I initially thought would be predictable, was full of twists and turns and completely surprised me.
I don't normally get into series but holy crap this was such a fun book and I didn't even realize it was part of a series! The concept is super interesting, the characters are fun and ambiguous, it leads perfectly into the next book. Would absolutely recommend.

So I put this on my TBR list for a creepy, but not scary Halloween read. I guess it kinda of delivered on that front- more gory than anything else. I liked that the premise was different than anything I've read in YA, however, the big problem with this book is the plot holes. One minute she's losing the oars and the next she's rowing away. There were many points like this that I was like, "she needs better beta readers." These little instances really pull you out of the narrative and kind of ruined it for me. Won't be reading the next one.

The plot was great and the characters just made it even better. I loved Nita's (main character) perspective and how people respond to her and how she reacts. The actions made me hooked until the very end. Many people may have mixed reviews (obviously) but I loved it. Also I think people may have not liked because of Anita, but she made it even more interesting for me. I may be biased because a friend recommended me it but It definetly was at least a solid read.
Side note: The writing wasn’t the best, but it is a debut novel. The repetition didn’t really take away from the story for me though. I loved every other aspect that it didn’t even matter.
