Well wow.
I think it was about time someone gifted the YA world with one Nita Sànchez.
Reading this at 2 am was creepy and wonderful at the same time, with fantasies of dissecting people and black markets selling said dissected parts. With questions of what would you do to survive? Which lines would you cross? What would you be willing to sacrifice?
And what really makes you a monster?
If you are looking for main characters that are basically saints, let their feelings get the better of them and need rescuing, then this book is not for you.
Nita hates people, can very much save herself and actually uses her brain.
And it was so satisfying watching her throughout the whole book.

Spoiler
They make her a prisoner and she burned the whole place to the ground.
The MC of this book reminded me of Skitter from the Parahuman series, if Skitter didn't shy away from murdering people. So many bodies, so much blood.

Okay, I’m giving this a very high 4.5/5.
Immediate thoughts:
My God, this book is the YA thriller I needed! I’ve found myself reading this genre and just wishing the author would go a bit further. More blood. More horror. MORE. Not Even Bones went there, folks. The gore, the body horror, the cringe. Everyone is just awful and gross all the time and it was perfection!
All my awkward love for gore aside, the world building and “Unnatural” character descriptions are freaking brilliant. It’s so unique and dark and endless. It reads like a horrific urban fantasy in a world full of antiheroes.
The characters are also bloody brilliant. Nita is our MC and she is just such a terrible child and I WOULD DIE FOR HER. And she would definitely let me die for her if it meant she survived. She’s awful. I’m in love with her. Kovit is also a person and he evokes emotions...and that’s all I’ll say. Just know there are zero heroes in this book. None. If you don’t love antiheroes, look elsewhere.
Anyway, this shit is dark and awful. It’s also creative and amazing. I love me a YA book that doesn’t sugarcoat anything, but covers it in blood instead.

Higly recommendo for someone who is looking for a daker read with very brutal scenes and a great narrative.
Very interesting premise and plot but while I wanted to love it... I just didnt? I honestly cannot pin point why, the characters were complex and not likeble at times which was awesome.
The complelxity of how we deem and define monsters is a central topic thorugh out this book and is one I love to read about but it wasnt enough to lure me to keep reading the following books on the series.
There is also a comic over at webtoon based on this series, I think that storytelling for this is perfect and I might continue with that one over the books.

(I'm writing this review a few weeks after finishing this book) I really loved the concept of this books and the way that the setting was in the Amazon which was so cool. The plot was really good as well and i loved the way thing panned out was a writing style made it suspenseful and interesting. Nita is a cold person but that didn't stop me from rooting for her. She is very smart and represents the monster in all of us and this was very refreshing. Kovit is my boy and I would protect him with my life... He's also a really good partner to Nita and I think they balance each other out in the sense that he has some flimsy boundaries and Nita had none what so ever and their personalities also align. Overall a killer book (see what i did there ;)) and one that will defiantly have a place on my favorites shelf.
