I find the comparison of Nearly Gone to the television shows Bones and Fringe an unfair one. It sets the reader up for disappointment and lets the book down as well, because while there might be elements that you could make that comparison to, it would be a loose one. I kind of felt like this was a grittier homage to Nancy Drew, with more blood and fewer sweater sets and penny loafers.

I could NOT put Nearly Gone down, I devoured it in a matter of hours. Nearly was nerdy, intelligent and relatable (minus the part where she's running after a murderer - me, personally, I'd totally be holed up somewhere hiding like a big baby). The story had a tinge of romance to it, but it was mostly in the background - for which I was grateful (my whole point behind reading Nearly Gone was the sheer fact that I was utterly tired and disgusted with the ooey-gooey love stories I kept picking up, I wanted some murder and mayhem, damn it!).

I thought it was compulsively readable, the plot was interesting and twisty and the ending was satisfying.

I received Nearly Gone as an ARC through Netgalley.com via Penguin Young Readers Group.

Good YA mystery

This isn't a bad mystery suspense novel. The characters are interesting overall and figuring out who is a good guy and who isn't is great fun here. My problem With Nearly Gone is that there was a lot of potential to break molds here, but instead the author chooses the predictable. If that hadn't been the case my reading would definitely be higher.

It was more like Numb3Rs meets Bones...and a little fringe (only cause of her "gift"). It was a really good murder mystery though. I guessed somewhat right before halfway point though. :P

I'm a fan of the main character, Nearly Boswell, and excited to see her in her next adventure. The plot of "Nearly Gone" was intriguing, but there were a few holes as the author sped toward a conclusion.

I did not want to stop reading this book. I forced myself to put it down to go to bed, and then I thought about it all night. I finished it on my lunch break at work. No, I did not figure out the killer. I am about to start the next one. BRB!

Hmmm....this book has an ok rating....did we read the same book?
I didn't really connect to any of the characters. Reece was the most likable, which is somewhat bad to admit due to his behaviour in a lot of the book.
There is good potential in this plot, but there were a lot of messy passages that left me scratching my head. Plus, I felt like I had to suspend belief a lot to buy the plot twists. I will say that I didn't have the culprit figured out 100%, so the book at least had suspense. But this book was only Nearly good.

3.5/5 stars

This was at a 3 stars until the very end, but the ending was prETTY FANTASTIC.
I enjoyed the plot for the most part, but it took me a while to warm to the romance. It felt pretty forced to start and everything happened so fast that it didn't feel natural. Reece also partially falls into the bad boy with a heart of gold trope which is one of my least favorite tropes OF ALL TIME so that might be why it took me a while to get into this book.
I enjoyed Nearly as a protagonist for the most part, she definitely grew on me throughout the book and I liked her a lot by the end.
The plot was the best part of this book even though it wasn't perfect. Figuring out the clues with Nearly and trying to figure out how everything fit together was so fun, and by the end of the book I COULD NOT PUT IT DOWN. I also didn't see the ending coming, probably mostly because of a few plot holes and lack of foreshadowing, but I actually was fine with that since it made the ending a shock.
Overall an enjoyable book and was a fun read! Not amazing, but not terrible.

This book certainly kept you guessing. The clues were all there to know who the bad guy/girl (I don't want to give away gender of the offender) was. I enjoyed reading this and very much will be looking for the next book if there is one. The romance wasn't as rushed as some YA books. There were some characters that I was routing for that didn't get a satisfying ending. The puzzles that the bad person left for Nearly were clever. I'm not sure I could have figured them out. They use a blend of scientific and literature knowledge. Kudos to Elle Cosimano for inventing such smart clues. And let this be a lesson to all the teens out there - know your Shakespeare, physics and chemistry! You never know when a serial killer will taunt you with that knowledge.

I hope we will see more of Nearly. She was an interesting character. She was smart, but impulsive. Clearly was a deep thinker, yet she reacted on emotion. I think there is more room to explore between her and her mom and definitely need more answers about her dad. There was a strong message that you can take charge of your own life and lead a completely different one than your parents. Education is strongly encouraged as a vehicle for that change.

I really enjoyed this one, and the person I thought was the culprit was not. The whole enjoyment of this book is that you don't know who did it, but when you find out, it makes perfect sense. I will be looking for more from this author.
