Incredibly interesting. Lots of little facts I was able to discuss with others. Made me question a lot about the “settled science” in this field (i.e. it isn’t settled and hasn’t really ever been settled. We’re still figuring A LOT things out). Highly recommend the read.

Despite its assumptions about the great pox, this is a delightful popular survey that includes two pieces of advice worthy of repeating:

“[G]o be gay and do crime.”

“Here’s the thing: you’re just fine.”

Feltman’s consciousness and acceptance of sexual and gender variations is extremely useful, her sense of humor is a delight, and the book, while not breaking any particularly new ground, collects sexual anecdotes and histories in an accessible and welcoming way.

Great blend of well-researched information and humor - fantastically approachable and really interesting material. This was well done but the later chapters felt short and a little rushed.

What a fun book - loved the author as the audiobook narrator. Informative, fresh, a little woke - sure, but really works/makes sense for this subject.

I really enjoyed this book! It approaches sex and the history of sex in a tasteful, but engaging way. I learned so much from this book and I'm so glad I picked it up and read it.

A wonderful book as an introduction to the subject; if you are well-read in this area, nothing is really new here. However, it's a quick, witty, insightful read so you may want to take it in anyway. The author does an excellent job presenting the material and flowing the book, keeping the basic themes always at the forefront while entertaining. Each chapter, however, has the ability to be an entire book, so topics are addressed only briefly and to no depth.
