Matt Smith's BARBARIAN LORD is probably best described by its influences. Take a bit of Jeff Smith's Bone, mix in a large amount of Conan and Thundarr, steep with a large dose of Italian barbarian films, and add a bit of Swedish mythology. Finish off with a dash of wry humor and you're done!
If this sounds like something you'll like, go for it, because thats exactly what it is. Gorgeous, stylized line-work mixed with intentionally stilted dialogue, talking animals, and the usual barbarian blood feuds.
It's definitely not to everyone's tastes, but I found it refreshing and entertaining. I'm definitely going to look forward to whatever Matt Smith comes up with next.

Enjoyed it very much, but the skull people were kind of too much for me.

Not really to my taste - maybe someone interested more in action comics. However, the art was interesting and the story was layered.

Amazing. All the funniest and most epic parts of the Sagas in a light fantasy graphic novel. The birds make great framing device, and every bit is pulled from something, and spun into a packed little story. I adore it.
Great for an older audience, c. 1200 maybe?

Interesting mash up of stories and styles. Certainly worth a look if you like Vikings/Conan/Sword and Sorcery

Interesting, but not my type of book. I can see this book appealing to a younger generation.

Barbarian Lord is an epic quest graphic novel. Fans of mythology will enjoy this addition to that genre. Full of action, fascinating black and white scenes transform this book into serious eye catching goodness. Readers will enjoy the lyrical language and blood thirsty plot. While readers can easily experience the saga through the illustrations, the ballad like verses of the Barbarian Lord are well worth the read.
So far, there are 3 volumes in this exciting series. It is up the reader to determine if Barbarian Lord is villain or hero. The Barbarian Lord is a series that has many readers. Read all three volumes. Follow the saga of the hero/villain. Share.
This series will work well for middle grades tweens.

It was a good story and definitely for those that are interested in medieval warriors, but I found how the characters spoke a little hard to follow sometimes. I think the same confusion would be found in middle and high school readers, also.
