DNF at 56%. This is awful.

The beginning is kind of all thrown together, it gives a kind of strange feeling, not in a confusing way, just strange. But the story did in a good/engaging way.

Also, the timeline is kinda meh.
How does a powerful king, who spends majority of his time trying to find a way to break the curses, and this for 500 years, has so little knowledge? And the “information was lost” doesn’t work, because both grim and oro were there when the curse was created.

Another thing, for “deadly” trials and the island, it seemed pretty chill to me

Ahhh this book was so good! It combined my favorite elements of Caraval with Three Dark Crowns (also great books I highly recommend). The twists and turns throughout were so satisfying as the main character discovers more about her friends, her enemies, and herself.

I'm only one book into this series, and I already know I will be recommending it to everyone I know.

Bonus points, the audiobook narrator sounds a lot like Emily Elizabeth from Clifford The Big Red Dog (IYKYK).

3.5/5
Je refuse de croire qu'elle va terminer sa vie avec Oro, c'est hors de question, rendez-moi Grim s'il vous plaît

4.5 stars rounded down. Wow! I was impressed with this. Usually I can see plot twists coming but this had my jaw on the floor a couple of times which is hard to do! I really enjoyed the storyline and the characters. I like Isla as the FMC! Only reason it wasn’t a 5 star for me was because the world-building was very basic at the beginning. I feel like more could have been put in there so as to get a better picture of this world earlier on. I developed a picture of everything as the book went further on, but at the beginning I felt like I was pulling at strings a little bit trying to put it together.

Most definitely Team Grim. Idk but I pictured Oro as this really old man so all that just threw me off there…I since have seen depictions and descriptions of him as a younger looking, handsome blonde guy but yeah definitely thought he was old for like 75% of this book.

Overall can’t wait to read the rest of the series!
