An excellent historic fiction. I appreciate it how they brought light to the women being put in seeing this albums when they spoke up or independent and brought to light the issues with arranged marriages and abusive marriages and how difficult it is to get away from it. Abusive relationship was interesting how they went back and forth between the two time periods and the what lives of those two people being interwoven

I don't think the story had a lot of surprises but it was well written and engaging story. I didn't want to put it down till it was done and I got invested in the people, characters and their goals and outcomes during the story.

Went into this book with no idea what it was about and wow I loved it. The perfect combination of mixed storylines, magic, mystery and incredibly intriguing character lives. Wish I got a little more clear explanation of all things at the end but thought it all tied together so nicely.

Creative, magical plot. There are times when the plot is a bit unclear. I thought it a bit much, that most of the women characters were abused at some point in their lives. Loved the magical touches.

There are some plot holes, but if you’re willing, you can suspend that frustration to enjoy a fun and uplifting story

Before you start this book, definitely read the trigger warnings. Based on the summary and the tagline “the most charming and uplifting novel of 2023”, i was expecting a cozy story about a magic bookshop that filled you with warmth, hope, and childlike wonder. This book was nothing like that. Instead, it is 431 pages of three different people experiencing and processing horrific and very real-world traumas. The actual bookshop is much more the background setting of their lives, and not at all integral to the plot in my opinion, which i thought was a bummer. this book could’ve easily been set in a realistic world without the bookshop and it would change very little.

Ultimately the book was fairly captivating and i did read it to the end, but i don’t think i would’ve chosen this had i known what it was actually about. Or at  the very least i definitely would have been more mindful about reading this while in a good headspace. The history was pretty cool, it’s clear the author did a ton of research and there are so many historical Easter eggs interwoven
