This book has the definitely feels like โThe Secret Gardenโ meets โAlice in Wonderlandโ meets modern days times with a historical twist.
โIn a place called lost strange things are found.โ
The Lost Bookshop brings together two tales, weaved together in a dual timeline story taking place in both the 1920โs and present day. The story is written from the perspective of the 3 main characters- Opaline, Martha, and Henry. While Opaline and Martha are looking to escape abusive lives, Henry is looking for a lost manuscript. Their worlds collide and their lives are woven together through a lost bookshop, in which mystery, the mysterious, even mystical things live. Trouble is, present day, no one can find the bookshop, yet a part of it seems to exist in each one of them. Slowly the pieces are revealed one by one and the mystery uncovered, and the bookstore revealed.
I found this book slow to start and then it just took off. It was full of romance, oddities, and secrets. My favorites character, Mrs. Bowden kept things fun and exciting, with her with witty charm and seemingly ignorant attitude to the going ons around her. I was honestly still stumped over halfway through the book. Then, with about 10% left the author dropped a bomb that rocked my world. However, after the bomb, disappointment ensues- I felt the end was rushed which was a real let down. For that that Iโm only giving it a 3.5 โญ๏ธ, but honestly it probably deserves 4โฆ.so you should still read it. โบ๏ธ

A warm and cozy book about a mysterious bookshop that has seemingly disappeared if it ever even existed. In the search for the bookshop, a cast of characters finds freedom, love, new beginnings, and family.
Multi-perspective. Multi-timeline.
I really did enjoy this story and the characters. Opaline's story was the most interesting. Reclaiming her life time and time again was a joy to read.
Martha and Henry's love story was ok, I'm not usually a romance reader, but their story at least wasn't cringy.

I genuinely loved everything about this book. It is clever, wondrous, tragic, hopeful, passionate & just so many things.
I was on a constant ride of highs and lows, cried, laughed, blushed, gasped and celebrated.
The multiple POV and time line are done wonderfully and easy to follow.
The characters are wonderful and full and go through so much, good and bad.
The Lost Bookshop is a must for all lovers of reading and magic, with some wonder literary history featured.
This book is an instant re-read for me and 100% recommend as many people as possible experience the journey that Evie Woods has so wonderfully put on paper.

- I adored Opaline's story. It was the standout. Had the entire book been Opaline's story and thoroughly fleshed out, this may have been a 4-star read.
- Henry was the dullest, flattest, most useless character.
- Henry and Martha did not seem to have any chemistry whatsoever. It was only in the moments where one of them are thinking "oh s/he's perfect!" that anything came across, and it felt like we were being reminded they were supposed to be together.
- The magical realism of the story was shoe-horned in and so lightly defined that it seemed to be pointless.
- There are 3 books in this book. One is possibly great (Opaline), one is okay (Martha and her husband and how she grows as a person) and one terrible (Henry and Martha and the magic bookshop).
- Plot holes make my head hurt.
