Though not my preferred genre, I do take time now and then to peruse the self-help and modern-psychology (pop-psychology?!) works to see what ideas are currently brewing. There may be many like myself who find it comedic that we fall in to the desired audience of the books we read: I sense that I have empathetic tendencies, so I choose to read a book describing and advocating empaths [b:The Empath's Survival Guide: Life Strategies for Sensitive People|30962218|The Empath's Survival Guide Life Strategies for Sensitive People|Judith Orloff|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1477441819s/30962218.jpg|51577391]; I would describe myself as an introvert and find solace in a book that discusses the value of introversion [b:Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can't Stop Talking|8520610|Quiet The Power of Introverts in a World That Can't Stop Talking|Susan Cain|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1328562861s/8520610.jpg|13387396] (in a predominately extrovert world); I find myself saying "no" to things that overwhelm me, therefore I read a book that asserts the necessity of no [b:El Poder del No / The Power of No: Because One Little Word Can Bring Health, Abundance, and Happiness: Una Pequena Palabra Que Te Dara Salud, Abundancia y Felicidad|34553945|El Poder del No / The Power of No Because One Little Word Can Bring Health, Abundance, and Happiness Una Pequena Palabra Que Te Dara Salud, Abundancia y Felicidad|Altucher|https://s.gr-assets.com/assets/nophoto/book/50x75-a91bf249278a81aabab721ef782c4a74.png|55694804] in order to protect our positive energies; and so on. It is also noteworthy that these kinds of books always seem to sum up their little sliver of an approach as the only approach. And it is somewhat amusing to have authors catalog modern and historical figures that they think fit into their niche of expressed behaviors.

So this was a fun little book that reminded me it's ok to be me. And it's ok to have a few books out there that remind us that I'm ok - you're ok.

I enjoyed reflecting on my empathic personality and learning ways to cope. I also especially enjoyed finding that some suggestions I had already begun by simply being in tune with my self. Trust yourself. If you feel overwhelmed or overly connected to the environment around you, I think this book will help you find ways of coping and being grateful for your empathic gift. It is truly a gift to be thankful for.

The first chapters were amazing to read. Definitely being an Empath myself it was great to read about it and I was repeatedly like "oh my God I never knew that [...] isn't 'normal'/something EVERYONE feels/goes through, but it totally makes sense now why [...]!"

And then it was just all a big bunch of useless information and I completely lost interest.

I think her definition of empath is fuzzy, and the book was pretty repetitive, but there were some useful insights here.

I really enjoyed this book as it touches on a lot of issues that empathic people have, most of which we didn't realize *why* we had them. Those of us who were always called "too sensitive", etc., finally have some good information as to why we are sensitive, and also ideas about how to manage this properly, establish healthy boundaries and protect our energy. On top of that, there is the focus on the pros of being sensitive-- the ways this gift is helpful to us and how we can encourage that use in our careers and lives. There are some really great exercises to help focus our energy, protect our space, and utilize our gifts for the good.

This book was so insightful. I marked as DNF because after a certain point, it stopped being relevant to me personally so I stopped reading (or listening because it was an audiobook).

As far as content, this was 5 stars for me. Incredibly informative and enlightening for my empathic tendencies, many characteristics I didn’t know were empathic.

As far as logistics, 3 stars, I wish this audio book was better split into chapters. The chapter transitions don’t entirely match where she changes topics. It’s hard to refer back to things outside of dropping my own bookmarks in (and that’s not easy while driving).
