This was a quick read that ends on a cliffhanger and felt unfinished. The FMC encounters a lost journal written by a vampire and reads it, mistaking it for a work of fiction, and just as she finally realizes it's not, the story ends; I was expecting a lot more cat-and-mouse. Don't judge a book by its cover; this is not a romance, although the FMC does have a behind-closed-doors situation with a police officer, it's not the focus of the novel. The FMC never meets a vampire face-to-face. In light of the fact it's supposed to be a bit of a mystery/suspense, FMC is surprisingly incurious when the vampire's victims are named and their deaths reported in his journal. Even when they are seemingly very Google-able socialites, she doesn't look them up, which would've given away the game much sooner. It's not like she had to immediately come to the conclusion that vampires are real just because the deaths are real--as the police officer points out, the mundane explanation of a delusional serial killer documenting his creepy crimes makes a lot of sense considering what the FMC knows. Nevertheless, she doesn't figure it out until the very end, and then we get the aforementioned cliffhanger.
The story takes place in Boston, Massachusetts but is obviously written by a British writer, and to her, I would suggest watching a bit more American TV, because it's quite noticeable when an American says "I will phone the police" instead of "I will call the police," for example. But points for effort; e.g. calling the FMC's place an "apartment" instead of a "flat."
I think I might wishlist the other books in the series to see if they go on sale, but I cannot say that it's a "gotta know right now" feeling.

Josephine
I saw this book in a group for free and it sounded good. Wow this book was really good I enjoyed reading it. At the end I was like girl you better run. And now I'm hooked on the series. This is a new author to me. I loved the story!

Trust me when I say that this is not what you're expecting when you started to read it!
That's no bad thing.
One thing I will say is to go in without reading the synopsis. It will just help with the surprise!
So on her way home from work one night, while rushing to try and catch the bus, Josephine is focused on not missing it as she already has the heebie jeebies! She stumbles and comes across a book and being a book worm picks it up and carries on, just narrowly catching the bus home.
She thinks this book is some sort of manuscript. A journal based on a vampires life and his daily way of living. She finds it humorous. At first.
Then things start to set off warning bells in Josephines head....events that have happened in the none so distant past that the author had written....
Then when an entry appeared about her.....she flees to the airport to get a flight to ANYWHERE. Just to get away from here. NOW.
Josephine now knows this is no manuscript. She holds the diary of a 500 year old vampire. He wants it back. And he's happy to come and get it. Wherever she may be....

This is not some sparkly vampire romance. With nods to Bram Stoker, the vampire in this book takes a decidedly darker turn with no romance whatsoever. This is a guy you want to stay away from!

Until she meets a guy named Hunter, and some really weird stuff starts happening. Suddenly she doesn't know who to trust and things just go from bad to worse.
